single shot

Well, deo volente, I'll be heading to the range this coming week. I may just carry my '06 with me at that time. I need to work up some new loads. It was blooded on a mule deer about five years ago, and hasn't accompanied me afield since. I may just have to rectify that this year.

thank you for the heads up in regards to your experiences. Much appreciated

Paul,

the 275 Rigby, as we prefer to call it in the U.K. is one of my favorite calibers. I think Scotty got one for his son, nice caliber.

Dr Mike and Jim---PLEASE, dont encourage her lol

Best Regards

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. Been up in New Mexico elk hunting. I have three 7x57s, a Winchester push feed M70 Featherweight, a custom on an FN Mauser action and a Ruger #1A. The Ruger is an earlier one that had one of the bad barrels you hear so much about. Way too long a throat. Sent it back and Ruger rebarreled the rifle. It's a good shooter now as is the M70. The custom is chambered so tightly that pressures develop quite rapidly. Still a lot of work to do with that one.
Yes, I got my elk. Used my .35 Whelen Mauser. While talking with my hunting partners the night before the hunt, I mentioned that I considered it my lucky elk rifle. Someone said a "Mr. Lucky" eh. I decided if a rifle deserved a name, that one did so now it's "Mr. Lucky".
Had come to the conclusion that this was probably my last elk hunt as did one of my hunting partners. While having lunch Bill, my partner said that he'd figured this would be his last hunt as well. The next day he said, you know, I think I'll do one more hunt. I looked at him and said, "Me Too!." My wife said we're crazy. Old guys in their 70's don't do elk hunts. I looked at her and said, "Wanna bet?"

That is great news, Paul. I stand on the cusp of seventy. I'd sure hate to hear that I had conducted my final elk hunt. Frankly, I don't want to be here when someone says I've done my last elk hunt. Just let it be a surprise to those that stay behind. Oh, and congratulations on tagging your elk. That is just great. (y)
