Status? E Tip 257

I will ping Nosler again. I am trying to find out BC as well as timing.

I would go with .420 BC.

I think we played this game B4...

POP, I hope you are right.

Swift rates their 25 cal. 100 gr. SII at .429, but then again they rate their 6.5cal 130gr. bullet @ .571. They sound a little optimistic to me, but a little pricey to test.

getting ready to order some now and I got a 10 dollar off coupon from mule deer foundation!

Now when will we see the Hornady GMX?

I will be testing the .25 cal 100 grain E-Tip this Friday morning. I was advised to try RL19. The B.C. is .415 ish. A lot are being packaged for shipment. Several people in the "know" say that this is the best E-Tip yet.

I will be shooting five each of 65, 65.5, 66, and 66.5 grains of RL 19 with an OAL of 3.18"

Previous experience with 85, 100, and 110 grain bullets proved to me the longer they are the worse they shot. Weatherby's have about 3/8th of an inch "freebore" and you can not get anywhere near the lands.

I will post results here on Friday afternoon.

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to seeing your range report. If you could confirm the BC that would be great!

Jerry I assume you are working on the wby based on your volumes of powder used

why did you choose 19 over 22? I was always under the impression that 22 performed best of course every gun is different!

Nitis,

During the day I get to talk with the guys that are testing loads downstairs in the ballistic tunnels and the engineers that design the bullets. From what I have seen their work is flawless. They test, re-test, and test again. They do not settle for okay or pretty good. They produce only perfect or as close as they can. Their consensus is that the .25 caliber 100 grain E-Tip could be the ultimate configuration.

They recommended I try RL 19 for the lighter weight bullets, 85 grain and 100 grain, and Rl 22 for the 110's.

My 26" .257 Weatherby will shoot three shots into one hole at 100 yards with 85 grain Ballistic Silver-Tips over 71.5 grains of RL 19 @ 3800 FPS. Best that I found with the 110's is 7828 SSC.

Life is good!
My Ruger #1 25-06 yearns 4 it!

I think I'm gonna try Reloder 17 in my 257 Roberts and start with Reloder 19 in 06. For some reason I'm very anxious to try this one out. Haven't been that way in a long while.

Nitis,

Shot the .257 E-Tip this morning in a .257 Weatherby Magnum. Used RL19, Norma brass, Federal 215M primers. COL = 3.18" Best three shot group was .486" at 100 yards. Average speed was 3360 FPS with a SD of 11.

Temperature was 35 degrees and the wind calm. No signs of excess pressure.

I will shoot three shot groups of 66.5, 67.0, and 67.5 grains in the morning.

Put a new Leupold 4-12X40 AO with Talley mounts on the rifle. Fine duplex crosshairs.

Shot (4) three shot groups this morning with the 100 grain E-Tip. tried 66.5, 67.0, 67.5, and another 66.5 grains of RL19.

Temperature was warmer, 50 degrees with no wind. Still the best group was with 66.5 grains on the second group. Three shot group mearured .415" with average speed of 3365 FPS. Speed just barely faster than 35 degree weather yesterday.

This load is .5 grains below the middle load in the manual for the 100 grain Ballistic Tip.

Speed with the 67.5 load was 3410 FPS which is where I would have liked to have ended up. I probably could change powders, but the 66.5 is consistent, shows no pressure signs and is declared the winner in this rifle.

Please note that this data is in a .257 Weatherby Magnum.

Jerry, I like RL19 a great deal in fast 25's with 85 gr. BT's or 75V-Max
& it gives some of the best velocities. It could & does do well with 100 gr., but I think some slower powders will give better velocities. I know the 100 gr. is the "tipping point" with some powders & could be argued either way while we can't argue about the heavier bullets needing slow powder, but I really feel you will see improvement with IMR7828, RL22 & slower powders. I have found this true even in the 25-06, much less the AI & the big Roy.

what difference did you notice between 66.5 and 67.5 as far as groups? and did you have any pressure signs?

I am going to start with either RL22 or 4831 as I have not tried 22 yet and 2831 did best with the 100 gr bt

I got some RL 17 here begging me to use it would it be worth trying in the wby?
