The Hawken gets it done

Good work! Congratulations. Several tasty meals, for sure. I tried, but all I accomplished was to give one a 50 cal belly shave. No blood just two hands full of white hair on the ground. He's probably still running.

Awesome congrats!
I am known to take a Doe or two when the opportunity presents itself.
While I do like big racks, I do “like big butts and I cannot lie” 😜😉

funny you mention this!
I did the same only a .30 cal trim….🤦🏻

Outstanding! Congrats. :)

Your Hawken reminds me very much of my 1990's 50 cal T-C White Mountain Carbine - a shorter version. Hmm, I like the idea of upgrading the sights as you did. At any rate - congratulations and enjoy your Christmas venison.

So, a little post-butchering update:

The doe was quartering to at about 30-35 yards when I shot. The bullet smashed the left front shoulder, traveled diagonally thru the body cavity, passed thru the right haunch, and stopped under the hide on the right rear leg. I don't have the carcass to measure, but I'm thinking that's 36+" of penetration.

The bullet started off as a 370gr MaxiBall that I cast from soft lead.

It expanded to .750" at it's widest point.

Final weight was 354gr, or 95.6%. You really can't ask for better than that.

What's that saying: "There's no school like the old school?" Lol.

Cheers,
