Nosler does some really pro-customer actions, one being their Nosler Seconds for just blemished production that is still 100% useable at extreme knock down prices.

What do all the other bullet manufacturers do? When we buy their products, are we buying seconds at Firsts prices?

I don't know of any other bullet manufacturer that is so committed to customer relations in this fashion as Nosler is. In today's day and age, that is very remarkable!!

Thanks Nosler

Now, if only we can figure out a way to make it easier for people living north of the border to access the Shooters Pro Shop. No doubt, Nosler makes a quality product; and they conduct their business in a quality manner.

Other makers liquidate true seconds differently, but not as firsts. Hornady stockpiles them and then releases the whole pile via two or three online retailers once a year or so. I'm not positive, but I think Speer does the same. Sierra, I don't know.

Sierra markets no seconds, it either passes quality control or they discard it. What they do with the copper and lead I don't know but they do not sell anything that does not pass inspection. Of course Nosler only sells blemishes as seconds, but all their bullets that are seconds meet specs for design and performance and I think it is cool that they do sell these bullets to the public.

Bullet, Sierra DOES sell it's seconds to the public, just not through any retailers. I don't know (never asked) if they will ship any to another location.

The Sierra factory is in the town where I live and I used to work there part time. There is an outlet store at the factory site that sells seconds along with ball caps, t-shirts, etc. They are sold by the pound, not a specific count, although they weigh the bullets in the customers favor (baker's dozen idea).

Sierra seconds may be cosmetically blemished or the weight may vary too much to meet first quality standards. The weight difference may be a tenth of a grain and not noticeable to most shooters, but if you weigh every component in a given load this might not work for you. I've shot bunches of them over the years at paper and critters and neither could tell the difference between firsts and seconds.

Since copper alloys and lead melt at different temperatures, they can salvage at least the lead out of rejected product easily enough.

I buy and use Nosler second (Partitions) and just weigh each bullet on a digital scale and sort into groups that are 0.3 grains wide each (nominal +/- .1 gr). This usually yields three groups of bullets per box with an occasional flyer that I mark and use as a barrel fouler shot. This saves me money and with a digital scale is not very time consuming. I just weigh it as I am seating bullets. To save $10/box or more, it is worth it to me.

Very interesting to know, thanks for the impute

There used to be a gun store in Lewiston ID (where Speer bullets are made) that sold Speer seconds, much like Sierra does above, by the pound. I went to the one I though it was last winter but they had none. Bummer.

Correct I know a couple of guys who stopped by the factory and bought thousands of them at a time.

Wow. Intersting results on this. I humbly continue to learn everyday.

I am sticking with the 225 NABs for my 338wm. After finally finding the perfect component and reload combination, these bullets are so accurate at 200 yards I am not going to even waste a dollar trying to find something else.

Thanks All

338winmag, I see that you are very logical, showing wisdom, demonstrating maturity, illustrating the function of common sense, and are the antithesis of Narcissist behavior, while presenting the character and embodiment of control, yet removing all doubt that you can live a boring life.

On the other hand, I am not logical, wise, mature, and lack common sense, a true Narcissist who has no control over my desire and addiction to do load work and engage in obsessive shooting sessions, while all along proving I am not in the state of being weary and restless through lack of interest (in short, not engaged in boredom)

Here is a little reading to help you out of the doldrums. You know, the low spirits of feeling boredom or depression due to just staring at your rifle and avoiding that period of inactivity or a state of stagnation, because your reloading press and dies are rusting. http://ammoguide.com/?article=mhsp68/reloading4v JUST HAVING SOME FUN TO BREAK THE BOREDOM OF NOT RELOADING OR SHOOTING TODAY

Guess what bullet?

I enjoyed that article when you made mention of it before... :) :) :) ..and quite frankly, I can read alot more so keep writing and also posting your questions and comments. I am a sponge for many many years to come.

I am not sure why anyone would ever think that just because I am wanting my $389.00 + tax Weatherby Vanguard S1 338winmag to shoot literal and valid 1/2" groups at 200 yards consistently, everytime, anytime, all the time...rain, hail, sleet, snow... ..that I am the antithesis of Narcissist behavior.
Actually I am writing this before looking those words up cause I don't have a clue what those mean. :):) Is that a bad thing?

great article and pictures. I luv pictures.

HEY, DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE WORDS!!! I actually said good things about you  , I don't think you have my sickness  Just having a lot of fun man, I know what it is like to have a rifle shoot a load real good with Accubonds, my 7mm08 did it right off the bat, but my sickness of loading and trying loads over came me   I just could not stick with one, although it is my favorite load to date.

Man, is that ever the truth, well said indeed 8) And when I have loads for any given rifle that allows me a lot of versatility I am happy. For example, the 140gr AccuBond moving at 2784fps is limited due to velocity although it is extremely accurate shooting three and nine shot groups under 3 tenths of inch. But to reach out further with more velocity and more energy I have developed other loads that are very accurate and will strike with greater energy at longer distances. Some would not need this or care but I do, so I do it.

That's when you get a .280AI. If I had that little tack driver though I wouldn't worry about it you know your load adjust pull the trigger and its down.

Well, I have a 145gr bullet now moving 2954fps shooting well under a half inch including called flyers, that gives me a 245yd zero being 2.6" high at 100yds and -5" at 310yds. Don't need a 280 AI, although I think I would really like the 280 AI in a Nosler Custom (perish the thought   don't need to enable myself  )

Hey bullet,
I might have missed this before...

What are you using for powder and primer for your 7mm-08 loads.

I put out another post asking if anyone is familiar with the new Alliant Power Pro 2000 MR. I called Alliant but their people who can answer the question are out till Jan 5th or so.

Thanks
Steve

There are two stellar powders I have found. W760 produces extremely accurate loads with lower velocities than RL-17, but RL-17 does give me good to outstanding velocities for the 7mm-08 and very good accuracy but the edge on accuracy for me goes to W760, but we are only talking one tenth to two tenths of and inch difference in some loads. Also, RL-17 is the cleanest powder I think I have ever used. Now W748 works good, H414, IMR4895, H4350, BL-C2 were also good, but Varget was disappointing in velocities along with 380. Now this is in my rifle.
