How to develop a load for your new-to-you Tikka 7mm Remington Magnum:

1. Seat Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primers in some brass

2. Pour in a bunch of MagPro (72 grains)

3. Seat some 160 grain Nosler Accubonds at SAAMI spec 3.290"

4. Go to the range and put up some targets at 100 yards.

5. Eyeball a paper plate through the barrel at the 50 yard berm and center the crosshairs

6. Fire one factory load and hit the little adhesive circle you put on the paper plate

7. Aim at the 100 yard target

8. Shoot three AccuBond loads

9. Done

Chrono'ed at 2997 with an ES of 12. Call it 3K. Measures 0.562".

And yes, I shot another group to confirm, but it opened way up to 0.704" so I didn't take a picture out of shame.

Looks as if that takes all the fun out of load development! Boring when things come together like that. Congratulations. I believe that load will do for about anything you will ever want to hunt.

Very nice! Can't beat that sorta load work at all. Pretty good, do it all sorta load to.

Never ran MagPro out of the 7mm Rem Mag, but it works REALLY well out of the WSM. Seems like a champ either way.

That came together quick, what's the recoil like on that gun since a Tikka is so light? Might end up using a T 3 rechambered 300 Win Mag for the 308 Norma project which isn't much more than a 7mm RM necked up. Yes Tikka makes an accurate gun and yours certainly shoots well.

Surprisingly mild with the Limbsaver. The 168 NABLR load was stout, however.

The 175 NABLR with Retumbo was very manageable also.

Tikka T-3 Lite Stainless, 308 Win, 150 gr Sierra BTSP, 46.2 grs of a mil-surp powder labeled Russian 4895 (wish I could get some more!) , 2.790", 2756 fps, .585" groups - similar extensive load development as pharmseller.

The Limbsaver is a good pad. My wife's T 3 6.5x55 is extremely accurate as well.

This is my 300 win mag with the "hard recoil pad" it now feels like shooting a 308 win or 30/06 after installing the limbsaver airtech recoil pad :)

Lou
With factory pad

with limbsaver airtech recoil pad

Nice Lou, thinking I should eventually grab a second T 3 for Maria in something like a 7x64, 30-06 or maybe a 270 WSM and get one of those installed. Keep the 6.5x55 for small-medium game and the bigger gun for elk and moose ;)

Got to say that Hunter Stainless is awfully nice looking.

Don't weaken, Scotty! Still, that rifle in 7X64 would be interesting.

Yep I could see the good Dr behind one of those in 7x64 as well ;)

Man those are nice guns........

Fine cartridge. Can you say "280?" I like Tikka's. When I was building a .260 for my grandson, I began with a Tikka. All that I have shot were fine firearms.

Yeah don't weaken. You guys pulled me to the dark side of Winchester!

No problem, Jake. I still buy Winchesters at a rate of three to one.

Yeah, it has been awhile since I have bought anything that wasn't a Winchester....
