Upgrading the Striker

I wonder if I can sneak another gun to my arsenal without my wife noticing. Those pistols are darned cool. It would be nice to get a 22 Creed or the 6mm Creed. Those pistols are neat. Any of those Creeds I would do.
Not related to this topic, I still have a 6.5 x 284, in short action, custom rifle in Rem. 700 built by Score High Gunsmithing back in the late 1990's. Super accurate rifle with a BR stock. Haven't sold it and still in a gun case, I could have a 22 or a 6 Creed chambered in that rifle perfectly since its a short action and convert the stock to a A3 or A5 McMillian and slap a new ATACR 7-35 on it. Just haven't thought about it either. I already have a 2nd 6.5 x 284 from GA Precision currently. The older rifle is on the back burner collecting dust. I just can't squeeze another rifle in my gun safe.

That is why new safes are manufactured every day.

Today headspaced the barrel put it in the stock , screwed on my break from the 6mm Creed and fired 3 rounds. All is good on that front. Paint needs to be fully cured before putting pic rail on for bipod.

Barely fits in it’s case.

Took it out today and the trigger still sucks. Anyone that ever shot a Striker would know what I mean. Took several shot to get scope on track. Overall I’m very impressed with McGowen’s barrel I got. My ammo I loaded up is a different story , I loaded it before I had the barrel. I bought some *once* fired 6mm Creed. Peterson SRP brass , ran a expander through them to open them up. I loaded them up with Hornady 117gr BTSP and some Sierra 117gr GK. Powder was Hybrid 100V. The problem is 1/3 of them won’t chamber , going have to resize them. My velocity was a little higher than I thought , upper 2600’s.

This is a huge improvement than the 7-08 barrel it came with.
The trigger is what it is. Maybe some day I’ll convert to rear grip.

Left bolt right port and one hand to hold it equals 3 hands. For this reason I left the ejector out so I don’t have to search for my brass.

After a long day mulling over it , I ordered a new barrel from McGowens for my Savage Striker. When I bought the “handrifle” it was a 7-08. I could never get the outcome I was hoping for. The new barrel will be 14” and chambered in 25 Creed. 9 twist with a Douglas Silhouette contour. The main bullet I intend to use is the Barnes 100gr TTSX.

Took it apart to measure up the current barrel and in 12 weeks or so the new one should be here.
McGowen does have a 10% off this weekend , doesn’t quite cover the shipping

Need to finish fire-forming brass before starting 100gr TTSX load development.

Hit a little snag today today with the 100gr TTSX. Velocity was way over QL projection. Using RL-17 started at 42gr and stopped at 44.5gr at 2918 fps. Not showing any pressure signs , just high velocity with easy bolt lift and no ejector marks.
Problem is a tight neck chamber. I’m using a Hornady 6.5 Creed FL bushing die with .282 bushing. Then I use a Sinclair expanding mandrel setting neck at .285. A loaded round is .287 and my fired round is .288. 0.001 neck clearance is my issue. Neck turning is up next.

Shot some Barnes today with satisfying results.

41.5 grs of RL-17

42grs of RL-17 is a little tighter

42grs is a little over 2800fps which is plenty fast for a 14” barrel. I’m done on this combo.

I’ve been thinking over the tight neck chamber on this handgun. I took a fired case and seated a bullet without sizing and has enough neck tension to work.

A small update.
My turning mandrel showed up today. I have 10pcs of Hornady 6.5 Creed brass I necked down to practice on. Hornady’s necks are thinner than the Peterson’s. I set the turner to clean up 80% of the neck on the Hornady brass. The nice thing I found out is the fired Peterson brass opening is the perfect size for turning. Leaving it set from the Hornady brass , I reduced the the neck thickness 0.002”. This now gives me 0.004” clearance.
I loaded up the Hornady brass with some 120gr Part. (Midway overruns) with some RL-17. 42grs is giving me 2620s out of my 14” barrel.
