Is weight sorting brass critical in a 22-250. half my win brass is at 160gr and another quarter of what I have is at 159.5 and 160.5gr inside 200 yards will it show on paper?

I asked this question about a year ago and some one mentioned this idea. Measure all your brass then find the average of the lot. From there, take 1% off of the average for the lower end of your range and then add 1% to the average to get your upper end of your weight range. I did that and so far, it is working well. It looks like you have some very close weights so I am guessing you will not see a difference at 200 yards.

Hund, that's a very tight lot of brass you have.
No a difference that small will not show in a standard rifle at 200 yards.

Don't know exactly from here but I think out of 100 pieces I sorted to nearest 1/2 grain around 50 were very close to 160. Around 15 were 160.5 and so on. Maybe I should have bought more ha ha. At least 85 percent inside 159.5-160.5 gr. thanks for the replies. This is a good forum for info that I sometimes want to know.

sorting brass by weight is a very poor indicator of case capacity . I checked water capacity on some brass last night here are my results .

empty .................................. full ......................................water capacity
332.38.................................448.02.....................................115.64
334.04.................................449.50.....................................115.46
336.94.................................451.76.....................................114.82
338.64.................................452.68.....................................114.04
339.40.................................453.54.....................................114.14
339.88.................................454.08.....................................114.20
