Rifle chambering and load?

I am still debating my choices.

257 or 270 Bee on antelope

30-30 on deer (timber style, close shots)
and 444 458 Lott or 378 Bee on elk? I do not know. :?

It is always a debate. I'm hoping my 9.3 X 64 Brenneke will be finished in time for grizzly and moose. For sure, it will be carried afield if it is ready. If the 338 Federal is ready, it'll likely be used for black bear and possibly for deer. Otherwise, I'll carry my .280, or .30-06, or 7mm WSM, or 7mm RM for black bear and deer, unless I happen to grab a .356. I'll likely carry the .325 WSM for elk. Choices are good.

Antelope: 7mm STW. 160 Nosler AB.
Deer: .50 Muzzleloader. 360gr Cast if I can get it to shoot, otherwise Powerbelts.
Elk: .338 Win Mag. 200gr NBT.

Antelope= .280 Rem. 160 Partition Weatherby Ultralight
Deer= 300WSM 165 gr something (I need to test some loads) Sako 85 Finnlight
1st Elk tag=338WM 225 TTSX Sako 75 SS
2nd Elk tag=280rem 160 Partition Weatherby Ultralight

Or I have been thinking about ditching the Stainless Synthetic rifles this year and use my
His and Hers matched Featherweights in 7-08win & 7WSM. I kind of like her rifle better

Put in for same area again? Where is the second tag in?

Same area for the 1st tag. Up north for the cow/calf. I really like that late season elk hunts around the holidays. My better half says I get kind of grouchy around X-MAS.
License results should be out soon!

My fallback is the .25-06 Rem 700 CDL for mule deer, with the 6x Leupold. Will likely tote it again this year, it's become my favorite mule deer rifle. The 115 Nosler Partitions are shooting well from it, at nearly 3200 fps.

For bear, likely the .375 again. I've got about a lifetime supply of good .375 Nosler hunting bullets for it, and it surely does work well.

Small caliber, fast bullets for mule deer, and bigger, slower bullets for bear. Works for me!

Deer- 308 WCF with 150grain Hot-Cor's (they shoot amazing in my Savage 99)

Elk- 30-06 with 165grain Nosler Accubonds

Russian Hogs- 30-06 with 165grain AB's if I cant get in close enough with my T/C Contender 357 Magnum shooting either 158grain JSP or 180 grain XTP

Didn't draw my doe tag, would've used the Contender for that one too.

Didn't draw antelope either, here in Oregon that's getting harder and harder...but would've used my 25-06 with 100 or 115grain Ballistic Tip.

Here is what I am planning...

Early Doe
6.5mm RM 125 gr PT or 130 gr AB

Black Bear
45-70 300 gr BST

Antelope Buck plus OTC doe tags
280 AI 140 gr AB
6.5mm RM 125 gr PT or 130 gr BT
338 RUM 250 gr AB
6.5 JDJ 120 gr BT

WT Deer
45-70 300 gr BST
6.5mm RM 125 gr PT or 130 gr AB
44 RM (S&W 629) 240 gr JHP
50 cal ML .458 300 gr BST

MI Elk (if I ever get drawn)
338 RUM 250 gr AB

JD338

I've got too many rifles avail, and not enough hunting opportunities set up... Dang.

Youngest son tells me that he's ready to take the old .257 Wby/Mauser afield, and it's actually working out okay. Old barrel and all... Photos and range report coming after another range trip or two. Looks like 115 gr Nosler Partitions at about 3200 - 3300 is where we'll end up with this rifle. Not a lot faster than where I'm loading my .25-06, but seems to be working well from the old rifle.

He wants to step up from his trusty 6mm Remington, and likes the family tradition of shooting and hunting with his great-grandfather's 1940's vintage Weatherby/Mauser. Also likes the family M1917 .30-06 he used on his bear last year. I won't be at all surprised if he elects to carry the .257 for deer and the .30-06 for bear.

Not sure we'll get out for elk, but maybe.

Elk (cow)- .50 call Muzzle loader with 385 gr. Great plains.

Wifes elk - 280 AI loaded with 140 AB or PT. Havn't decided yet.

Talking about an OTC Idaho white tail tag with the brother in law. Hopefully the 270 WSM situation will be solved by then. If so it will be that with 140 AB, if not it will be the 280 AI with 140 BT or AB.

Antelope: Very hard winters last two years & permits greatly reduced. Did not even apply this year. Would have used my 6mm Remington 100 gr. Partition.

Deer: 6mm Ruger #1B with 6x Leupold, 100 gr. Partition
30-06 Ruger #1B with 4x Leupold, 165 gr. AccuBond

Elk: 30-06 Ruger #1B 165 gr. AccuBond

Bear: 30-06 Ruger #1B 165 gr. AccuBond

If I DRAW!
Goat: 25-06 MTN rifle with 120 gr. Partitions or 110 gr. Accbonds
Sheep: 25-06 MTN rifle with 120 gr. Partitions or 110 gr. Accubonds
Moose: 30-06 Ruger #1B with 165 gr. Accubonds

I will use my 308 win for deer (If I get it back from the factory in time.)
The 7mm wsm will come out for elk.
Possibly the 223 rem for antelope if I can stabilize a bigger bonded bullet, and if not then the 270 win will take its spot.

My son Jeff:
Deer & Elk: 300 WSM in his new Model 70 Extreme Weather SS. We were eyeballing optics today & it will probably be a 4.5-14x40 Leupold of 4.5-14x40 Zeiss Conquest. 180 gr. AccuBond or Partition. If he gets his elk seperately, he will likely take his 6mm 90 gr. E-Tips after a big stinky buck. I put us both in for a special mule deer area that has some nice deer.

.280 Rem with 140AB for deer and probably the only thing I get to hunt this fall. No tags and can't pull off a DIY trip out west.

I'm thinking the Whelen and 338WM will go West for elk. I will also bring along the 270WSM or 264 for an extra for Brian

Once I get back East I will hunt with the 45-70 till it is blooded. After that I have a new 35 Rem and 30-30 that will make nice carry rifles while hunting with younger hunters.

I do have a 7WSM coming that should get carried as well. The 270 usually gets out here and there. Love having some choices.

338WM- 250 PTs
35 Whelen- 250 PTs
270WSM- 150gr PTs
264WM- 130gr AB's or 140 PTs
45-70- 350gr Hornady FPs
35 Rem- 200gr CLs
30-30 150gr BSTs

as my shooting sessions progress, it will depend on what I have the most confidance in, gonna work up new loads and see what is working the best.
