What is your absolute favorite?

CL I have that same Savage .22 Mag (Model 93). I just put a Minox scope on it because it shoots MOA or better at 100 yards with selected ammo. It is my main varmit rifle here at home.

Here is my favorite. Weatherby Ultra light. 280 Remington, Swarovski scope, 160 gr Partitions. I have many rifles set up for big game in Wyoming. This rifle goes hunting for something every year. It just feels right. Brian

What is your load and velocity with it?

And a right business-like rifle it is, Brian. Quite handsome. It is assuredly the right cartridge for pretty much all of North America.

Nice. 7mm rem mag factory load performance.

It's difficult to say what is my favorite caliber for the moment.
I would feel I would have to rule out the others I like just as much
However if one caliber had to taken on the expense of all the others,
it would be the "Bee two seventy". Because of the performance in all bullet
weights from 130grain to 180grain it becomes very versatile. The rifle is a M70 WINCHESTER
from the golden age.

I got it...my favorite is the one that uses primers in the ammo.

As opposed to those who do not, like a flintlock?

Good one, man. Rather like my favourite is the one that pushes small projectiles at high velocities out of a barrel.

Alright 280! Put up another point for the good guys!

Well I have found over the years that I seam to always go for a gun that is lightweight over others
and even more importantly is how it fits my hands! A well balanced Savage 1899 is about as sweet handling a gun as I have ever lugged thru the Maine Woods............ but almost the last 25 years when it gets time to saddle up, the gun I seam to always grab, even though my favorite caliber is .270 Win ; Is a Winchester Model 70 All Terrain Rifle that I think they only made a couple of years 1990-91 ????? In the boring old 300 Whelen................
52grs of 4064 behind a 165 bullet that is suited to the game you are after. Its light , its handy ,
its stainless, its reliable , and it has never let me down . It has accounted for alot of game in the last 20 somthin years . I have it toped off with a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 with a German heavy reticule and that replaced Leupold VXIII that rode ontop of it for about 15 years. The Zeiss is a better scope and the reticule is IMHO much more practical for our type of hunting.
Not a stunning gun in any way , not a tack driver at all , just an honest 1.5" gun @ 100 yds.
But lined up dead on at 200yds, there is not much out to 300 yds that ever requires extra shots to harvest the game. Its just a no nonsense , practical, never let you down tool that feels right in my hand and balances better than most. I had a Super Grade model 70 years ago with absolutely stunning wood on it, and really looked the part but the gun weighed around 9lbs scoped, and was just tooo big and clubby and for that reason I always left it behind. I finally got rid of it and have never looked back.
The 06 is the second one down from the top!

Also included a custom Savage 1899 I used to lug in my younger days!!! We restocked it with some fancy walnut and did a cool custom ribboned checkering pattern then color case hardened the reciever, the buck weighed in at 242 lbs field dress without his heart and liver . And from memory it was so tough you could NOT even stick a fork into the gravy!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite if I had to pick only one would be my G1 Remington Ti in 30-06. I am waiting for my anniversary gift or a McMillan Edge. Here she is from sheep hunting this year.

Earle, that is a great looking bunch of rifles and that 99, well, it's awesome.

Great buck as well.

So my .22 Marlin 39A is my "absolute favorite" rifle to shoot.

But the .25-06 Rem 700 CDL with the 6x Leupold is my favorite hunting rifle. Only got it about eight years ago, shortly after the CDL line was introduced. Only hunted with a couple of loads:

100 gr bullets with H4350 for 3340 fps

115 gr bullets with Retumbo for 3120 - 3190 fps, depending on the particular bullet & powder charge.

Most of my hunting is for mule deer, with a few coyotes thrown in throughout the year, and FINALLY a pronghorn antelope hunt. I've carried it for elk & bear, but no shot opportunity at either yet, with this rifle. The .25-06 has handled everything I've turned it to, from 20 - 400+ yards. Accurate. Reliable. Fairly light and easy handling. Love the slim lines of the stock. Carries easy. Shoots good. Filled quite a few tags with that rifle. Just last fall:

It's been a great rifle. All I've done to it was to adjust the Remington trigger, mount the scope, add a good sling, zero it and hunt.

How 'bout one of them "e tronix" things or whatever Remington called that electronic primer set up? Anybody got one? CL

Guy,
That was a great shot on that darn coyote! Most folks have no idea what sorta setup it actually takes to kill a coyote that far away. Well done!

Thanks 35 Whelen. I was pleased to make the hit, but not real surprised. Have used that rifle a fair bit in the field over the past 8 years and it works well.
