What oddball chambering did you always want????????

I was always hoping to find a .225 Winchester floating around to try. The 22-250 made it an afterthought before it had a chance.

Why not just get the big brother and be ahead! Those 338-06s are just squirrel rifles with more powder! Hasn't Jim shown you anything David! Scotty

Well played Jim, well played! Those 250gr PTs are really something. Can't imagine anything short of a T-Rex stopping them. A few pounds of RL15 and the PTs will probably bring you into elk rifle heaven! Scotty

The thread is entertaining, and highly informative. Will David see the light? Will he turn from his desire for a 338-06 and buy/build a 35 Whelen. Stay tuned! It is sure to become fascinating.

David -
do not listen to this nonsense...there was a lot of research that went into my decision to go 338 instead of 35. The ballistics are better for the 33 caliber, although the bullet selection has gotten better for the 35 calibers over the last few years. Let me get home so I can post some pictures of a case that at least has a shoulder!! :p

I've always had somewhat of a desire for a 6mm Lee Navy. Of course, I want the rifle to go with it, too!

You boys can keep your 33's I still like the energy and that 35 caliber hole I witness after the shot!!
Whelen's for me.

Don

Big necks are where it's at! You already have a 6mm Rem so no need to overlap the capabilities with that little 338. Might as well get into the big leagues. You want the poor mans 375 not the poor mans 30-06! Scotty

Way to go Don! At least there are four of us here to pull those 338-06's bacon outta the fire when it counts!

This is hilarious! Good response, Scotty.

A palpable hit, Joel. That is a good one.

Mike -
This all started this afternoon when we got together for the first time...oh the campfires will be fun/interesting!!! We are already planning a moose hunt and your name came up.

Ooooo! That is spooky. Let me know when it is planned. I'm probably doing laundry that week!

Thanks for all the help guys! Nice picture and nice bullet mushroom. Now what cartridge was that? Does anyone even chamber for it anymore, even if I wanted to get one? You all should be ashamed for ragging on the 30-06 as great as it is and how wonderful each and EVERY one of its offspring have been. :p

Boy I tell you, turn your back around here for one minute and someone does another bleach burnout!

I'll never rag on the good old 30-06, just why would I want a 33 cal. when I can get a 35 cal. that puts a larger hole through game? Think of it like this, given the same velocity and we are in a snow ball fight which snow ball is going to put a hurting on you the smaller one or the larger one?

I often wondered what it would be like to have a 358 STA!!
