What oddball chambering did you always want????????

JD,
That 250 Whelen load you have is a force to be reckoned with, good looking load.

Don

You guys have listed some pretty cool calibers. There are a few that I would like to have that haven't been listed.
6.5x284
6mm BR
30BR
45-120 and the sharps rifle to go with it!

When i get back from this next deployment I have three more years of college then I get my sharps as a graduation present from the wife! I have looked very hard into the 6BR, and I believe that will be my next build.

Sorry about getting this thread back on track, but the ones I would like to play with:
.22 Hornet/K-Hornet
.222 Rem
.222 Rem Mag
.250 Sav (just for you, CL!)
.264 Win Mag
.284 Win
7x61 S&H
.30-40 Krag (in a Ruger #1)
.300 H&H
.308 Norma
.338-06 (+ the AI version)
.358 Norma
9.3x62
9.3x74 (also in a #1)
.375 Weatherby
.404 Jeffery
I remember an article by Ross Seyfried in the late '80s/early '90s where he talks about a Dakota #10 chambered in a rimmed equivalent of a .280... 7x6X... 7x64R maybe? Between the gun (that #10 always seemed much more glamorous than a #1, and I really like #1s), my existing desire for a .280, and RS's writing, made me really want one. You think I'd remember what it was, though.

Don't even get me started on wildcats or Sharps cartridges.

DO I NEED TO PUT THE WOODCHUCK PICTURE UP AGAIN???

Well if we play that game.....

Well here we go. Got this one in Shirley basin WY with my 416 Bee and 300 gr Barnes at 3125 fps. 225 yard shot.... Kind of tore him up.

Wyoming prairie dogs--so tough, they require a BIG gun to take them down.

Easy for you to say Doc! You've never been charged by one!
You need a big bore!

For me it would be a 20 VarTarg
It would be perfect for rockchuck hunting round here
Where average shot is 100-150 Yard and it's low noise would be perfect
Since neibors are close

Neither the 6mm Remington nor .300 H&H are particularly odd, but I'd like to add one of each to my collection someday. I think I'd like to play with something in 6mm-06 also, but then why would I need the 6mm Rem? The .264 Win Mag is another intriguing number.

In handguns, I'd like something in 10mm based on the 1911 in my safe.

I have always wanted a 284 WCF in a Ruger M77 with a 22" tube and a 264 Win Mag in a Win 70 with nothing shorter than a 24" but preferably a 26" tube.

An extra 45 ACP cylinder for my 45 LC Vaquero

22 Savage Hi Power or 25-35 WCF in a Savage 99

45-70 in Ruger Number 1 or Marlin 1895

A Remington 40X Vietnam era Sniper Rifle in 7.62x51

Ruger New Model Mini 14 223 Remington Stainless

8mm Rem Mag in a Rem 700 BDL (sold one just like this years back like an idiot)

358 WCF or 356 WCF (either one) or a 35 WCF in an 1895 Winchester

375 H+H Mag in a Ruger Number 1 or Winchester Model 70

And a 1911A1 or one of the successful clones

Realize some of these aren't too oddball but I felt like since we are making a list for Santa that
I shouldn't leave anything out.

As you can see I don't want much...

22-.243
22 DTI (AR-15. 22-6.8 rem imp.)
6mm AI
358 STA! ( I'm not sure why, but I ever since I had a 7 STW, I have wanted a 358 STA.) That thing would be the end all Oregon elk hammer!

I think a 358RUM or 35-375 Ruger would be neat rounds as well. Scotty

Jake,

A 358 STA would certainly provide enough power to ensure that an Oregon elk felt it when hit. It wouldn't be like those puny bullets from a 338 WM bouncing off him and irritating him as he went looking for love.

Glad to see we are on the same page Doc

Scotty, I might have to replace the STA with the 35-375R. I think they would be about the same horse power, but in a non belted, shorter case. Good thining!

I'd kind of like to have.
17 REM
22 250 AI
6X45
6mm Dasher
6mm AI
250 AI
35 Whelen

Do to the lack of funds most of these won't happen but its nice to dream

Too many to count, but the .405 winchester is on the list. Also mentioned on another thread is the 35 whelen and .338-06 AI. But I really don't consider them oddballs in any sense. I often thought a .50 Alaskan would be cool. Specailly loaded with this 720 gr. cast, at around a modest 1400 fps or so.

Going a different direction, I also have had dreams of a .338 Lapua.

First off I have always had envy for the Ackley Improved stuff but will never own one since I dotn have the time or patience for fireforming.

Next I would love to see what a 6.5stw would do but think a 6.5-06 would suit me fine

Next I do plan on having an AR in 6x45

I think since I got a 300 Rum for my 30th birthday that a 358 RUM is in order for my 35th right?

And one day I hope to have a 250 savage bolt gun

so many rounds not enough time
