Okay, Friday I went and bought a used Remington 700 VSF in .308 and topped it with a Swaroski 6x18...My goal on that day was to look about trading a gun and some cash for a custom 700 in 7-08. Its a very nice gun, very light weight, thumb hole stock, muzzlebrake. Anyway, I'm thinking now I probably should have gotten the 7-08. Would you?

Not much difference between the two. The 7mm has good BC, the 308 has slightly more frontal area and can shoot heavier bullets.
What are your intentions?

Basically, I'm not sure what I would do with the .308.....Its a heavy barrel, probably weighs in the neighborhood of 10 pounds with scope. The custom is light weight and would be easier to tote around all day....

I have a 700VLS in 22-250 so I know what you mean about weight. Last winter I went coyote hunting in th UP of MI. Snow shoed about 4 miles with this rfle. Now I just use my shotgun.

Your options would be:
1. Sell the rifle and get the one you want.
2. Rebarrel to the caliber you want. A Hart barrel, blueprint action, and
6-8 month wait will cost you about $1K.
3. Go buy the rifle you want.
4. Keep the current rifle and get used to the weight.
