Found it at a pawn shop today verified by serial number 1958 action. Has a Leupold VX-III 2.5-8X36 mounted on it in two piece windage adjustable bases and rings. It must have been set for a small statue shooter as the scope is way too close and the stock is around 1" shorter than I like. Barrrel is a light contour not quite a fwt contour SS around 22-24", couldn't tell what make of black synthetic stock was on it. I did get to weigh it and it is right at 7.65 lbs, would have taken pics but my phone was dead at the time.

Asking Price $800 out the door but I never jump on the first offer, I'm not up on Winchester's and need a decent low offer to go to him with. Owner did say he would hold it for me until Monday. I've bought several rifles from him so I'm sure it will be held. I'm not too excited about it being a .280 I've owned them before and they never shot better than my .270.

If it is in nice shape & you can get him down a bit that would be a great deal as long as it is not shot out. That glass on top is of good quality!!!
The 280 is likely one of the most under utilized cartridge around

I would not hesitate a moment

Blessings,
Dan

I would agree.

I love how when you low ball their asking price how upset they get, "I got to make money". Friend of mine went through that with a pistol lately.

I always tell them..."Yeah, sure- but you're not going to make it all off me..."

I have an abysmal record of finding deals in pawn shops so I generally avoid them.

That sounds reasonable. While it is possible that the rifle is worth much more, the owner didn't pay that much for it.

Here is the pics, the scope is actually a Vari-XIII and it has aluminum bottom metal.

That looks pretty good, if the stock is light in weight my guess is it's a Brown Precision since it looks a lot like the one I have.

It could be just me, or the camera angle, or both. But that crown don't look real crisp. How's the bore look with a light? Other than it being a pre-64, there ain't anything real special there,,,,,
600 bucks might be the limit for me, pending bore & crown.

Wow, looks pretty good to me! That thing just screams "carry me into the elk mtns" if I ever saw one! Hope you can work a deal..

Deal was done this morning cost me just under $625 with tax. I took the pictures in my back yard. I sent some cell pics to a GS bud of mine and he thinks it is a Douglass #2 barrel and a Brown Precision stock. He said he would buy it off me if I didn't like the .280 Rem, but I didn't tell him what I got it for.

Other than a good cleaning needed the crown is sharp and and the rifling strong.

Seems like a winner to me buddy. The Stock and scope are worth nearly that much. You kinda got the rifle for free! If you can't stand that 280, I know a couple of fellers that wouldn't mind one!

Good score. When are you going to ring it out a little?

Don't know if I will anytime soon. I've been away training for several weeks now and kind of need to spend time with the family. Besides it is blowing at least 30 mph today not a good day to shoot. Good news is I still have plenty of brass, bullets and dies since I reload it for my BIL. He happily took my last .280 off of my hands.

Sounds like you got a decent deal. It will be interesting to see what she does for you.

That'll work

Bud that is a good deal in any country. You work the proper load and it will do everything you want it too.

Blessings,
Dan
