I had one I bought off a work friend lying around, wanted to play with it before or if I would use it as a donar action. Has all iron sights removed, shorten barrel to 24", and recrowned barrel. Just worked up a load of 42 grns of varget with 180 grn serrias and got a three bullets basically touching, oh and I had the lenth of pull shortened to. I just love shooting this thing.

The ol' .303 can be a surprise at times. I have a Ross Model 10 chambered in 303 that shoots far better than I can. I had a MkIV sniper rifle at one point that was a pleasure to shoot.

The brits fielded P14 "enfields" as sniper rifles until quite recently. Pretty good for rifles made in WWI. It is an accurate round. Like most military cartridges, it benefits more than civilian only cartridges from reloading your brass to more closely fit the typically oversiazed military chambers. As a rimmed cartridge, benefit is also gained by headspacing on the shoulder rather than the rim. Glad you enjoy your old warhorse. Sportered enfields are one of the classic deer rifles in the north woods where a win. 94 or Sav 99 was too much money for your average logger or iron miner.
