WTB Ruger Number One

"One cannot live without a hammer." Well, yes, that is certainly a truism worthy of each rifle crank.

Suits me certainly and now that elk hunting is not the primary objective maybe I can set as a goal to kill a cape buffalo or something equally unlikely? Even and asian water buffalo here in the US might work?

DRMike or any of you other 9.3mm guys, have you been able to buy and shoot the AccuBond 250 grain .366 dia bullet? They are currently out of stock at Midway but had a BC of .494 which makes them pretty air slick. I am anxious to try them.

Charlie,

We are on the tail-end of the supply chain here in northern BC. That said, there seems to be a good supply of 250 grain AccuBonds in Canada. Likewise, there is a good supply of 286 grain Partitions available to Canadians. There appears to be no problem securing these locally or from Internet wholesalers. I'm loading up fifty AccuBonds with my 9.3X64 for using the remainder of this season and next year during spring black bear. At 2700 fps and 0.6 inch groups on the first try, what's not to like? However, .366 250 grain Partitions? Not to be found. I would likely use them preferentially, if I found them. As it is, I'll probably focus (later, when I have more time) on 286 grain Partitions.

DrMike, Supply chain goffiness as usual, we can get 286 gr Partitions here (at MidwayUSA) but 250 Accubonds are on back order until mid November. Just the usual stuff I guess. I will start load development with the 286 Partitions and by the time I am done, the 250 grs will be available hopefully. No big deal.

One thing that I noticed from the Quickload info which was posted, that I really appreciated BTW, this caliber is not powder sensitive. The max loads with all of the powder spread that I use which was given are within a couple hundred fps. This is from IMR 3031 to 7828 which is quite a range. Interesting?

Sounds like a very cool rifle Charlie. Doesn't seem to be much reason to run them very hard either, 286's at a moderate 2400-2500 would be pretty powerful stuff.

That is what I was thinking, Scotty. For an elk rilfle to be used here at the normal jungle ranges of Western Washington, I can whack an elk with a 286 Partition at 2400 and ruin their day pretty well. In another posting, I have already talked about setting up the .338 Federal as a stalking rifle with the new 1-5x20 Leupold and Number One cannon as more of a standing and glassing rifle which will give me local coverage that will work just fine, having mounted a 2-8x32 Conquest on it.

Both rifles are short and compact, particularly the Number One with a single shot action and 22 inch barrel, it is not much longer than a Model 94 Winchester, albeit heavier.

Those sound perfect for what you are wanting to do Charlie. I dig them 9.3's. Very cool caliber.
