in the thread asking what's your favorite wild game , a lot of guys said moose . I've been eating moose all week , and finally thought to take a pic . it's a moose roast with potatoes , carrots , and onion . I put a packet of onion soup mix in and fill it with water . I slow cook it in a crockpot all day . I salt and pepper to taste, on my plate . it's very simple to make , and tasty . I'm no cook , and it always turns out great . sorry , I took the pic before I put some broth on .

Looks fantastic, but that’s just enough to get me hungry! 😋

I have a small piece of the roast yet . I'll have that at lunch today , in a sandwich .

I like potatoes and carrots cooked this way . I put them around any roast , and meatloaf too , but cook meatloaf in the oven .

the house smells great regardless of the type of meat . ;)

That smell of that roast cooking,, just going through your house is enough to put you down for the count.. nothing better. I’ve only had moose 3 times. and Elk 2 times.
I can’t deny that it would be a tough call for me, they both laid me back in my recliner, I envy you guys..

I think moose is the best I've ate in wild game . my Caribou has been gone for a long time , but I remember thinking it was hard to say what was better between caribou and elk . my Dad thought caribou was the best , he loved it .

I tend to steer towards the Caribou myself but the more I think of the meals I once had of moose and Elk. I’d have to lean towards the Moose myself..

Looks delicious Jim. It's been a while since I had cooked some wild game in my crockpot. When I cooked some nilgai roast, I seared the nilgai roast first with some garlic and onions on the stovetop, then in the crockpot, I added some beef broth, 2 packets of onion soup mix, salt and pepper, and the nilgai roast, let it cook on high for about 3 hours, then added the potatoes, celery and carrots an additional 2 hours or so. Delicious stew put on top of white rice.
You just made me put this on my " to do list" for the coming week.

Caribou early is great. In the rut it stinks.
I've only hunted them one time . this was back when a hunter could take 2 . not sure when the rut is up there , this was a end of August hunt , I got home on labor day . this is the only caribou meat I've ate . I remember the guide saying you have to get the meat off quick , because in about an hour it will start to push the stomach contents out it's mouth and that does hurt the taste . not sure if that's true about the taste , but he / we worked like crazy getting the meat off . I did see the stomach contents being push out of one I got my partner on . I wasn't nearly as fast as my guide was .

it's been cold here I might drag the crockpot out again . Guy mentioned stew , and that sounds great . nothing like hot stew when outside temps are in the teens or below teens wind chill .

As I recall it was later September into October. End of August you were obviously fine and yes bou is good eating. May have been dad’s work schedule but I don’t remember hunting them much early. Even recall when I was real young dad not shooting caribou when we were moose hunting. We did most of our hunting late after freeze up.
