Which truck / Chevrolet or Ford

I’m driving a 2024 F-350 6.7 diesel. We have several trailers included a 16K 6-horse head to head gooseneck. I traded a 2022 F-350 for this one. Those trucks get 18.5 mpg everyday driving and 21.5+ on the interstate with the cruise set at 70 mph. Towing is dependant on the trailer weight. The towing power is worth the extra maintenance cost.

We also have a F-150 3.5 Ecoboost that is my wife’s truck. We’ve had several Chevies over the years but prefer our Ford’s. I wouldn’t have a RAM on a bet. Chevies are more of a luxury truck than a work truck. I felt like I should be wearing starched and pressed skivies when I had that Chevy 1500.
 
I was thinking whether to keep my 09 HD2500, since I rarely had any big issues, except replace a glow plug here and there which I do myself after a computer scan for plug #, cracks on the top dash due to the heat, door lock actuators in the back works mostly, but sometimes won't work, and starts working again. I had a rear cabin air vent replacement where rain water entered in the rear cab. There are no issues with my 09 so far except these mentioned above. A 16 year old truck is pretty old and I have the original paint and at 110,000 miles. Still runs great. I'm just thinking,,,, 🤔
look up coverlay to fix the cracked dash, had to do it to my '03 dodge, 110 k is nothing on a duramax, what series is it? MML series have a crank issue, other thann that you are fine keeping it.

gets 21 mpg on the interstate, 18 around town empty. '03 model, somewhere around 300k on the clock.
 
I had a 2013 GMC 1500, sold it 2 years ago when I stumbled upon a stellar deal for a low mileage never-seen-salt 2017. I had hoped to take it over 200000 miles, and almost made it before the sale.
The 2013 engine dropped a lifter at ~160000 miles so I rebuilt the upper end and did AFM delete. The new owner was happy for that, as his truck had just dropped a lifter.

The 2017 has much better tech, but the seats are like sitting on plywood. The 2019 to now trucks have much nicer seats. Having CarPlay and therefore Google maps on the dash is SO nice. I was going to buy a 2023 until the 2017 showed up.

I would drive both Chevy/GMC and Ford, and see what you like best. Both have improved features, but the 10 speed transmission that they share is a weak spot.
If I bought new trucks and sold at 3 years I'd look at a Dodge, but I don't. Their transmissions are supposedly even worse.
 
I wouldn’t buy a new vehicle if any manufacturer right now.
QC is in the toilet with all manufacturers. That’s from a distant cousin that works for an auto magazine that reviews vehicles.

I honestly don’t even know who he works for.
I know him and his wife are both involved in automotive magazines but being someone I infrequently have contact with, he’s a third cousin, I just got that from him a couple months ago when I messaged him about buying a new truck.

I love the 6 speed Allison on my diesel 2009 HD2500, its a beast. It never downshifts from 6th gear while towing my RV up a bridge or into heavy headwind while cruising 70, it has awesome torque. That never happens with gas HD2500 with their 4 speed transmissions, always downshifts to 3rd even in headwind even with my boat.
 
I still enjoy my 1995 GMC K1500 but it is getting a little long in the tooth. This was the last day of deer season 2024. I think a Ford may be in my future but not until this one gives up the ghost...

The more gears they put in a transmission the more shifting they do. The more shifting they do the more the clutches wear. The new trannies don't even have a dipstick to check the fluid.
 
Otherwise I use the mirrors
An overlooked option on pickups in my opinion. Both my son’s and my F-150 came with an embarrassment of mirrors for trucks. They offer at an expense great tow mirrors which my son got. He pulls a large camper where I tow a flat bed trailer. I’ve learned to live with them.
