243 WSSM with a Richards stock

Dave, Are you referring to the thumbhole? I now own 2 with the 'thumbhole' and just ordered a third. The other day, I was shooting the two 'thumbhole' stocked rifles and a third with a standard composite stock. Near the end of my shooting day, the standard stock started to feel 'un-natural'...

    Glass bedding a remington 700 22inch 30.06

I second BTB. Besides, you can always ADD full barrel bedding - its kinda hard to remove the stuff if you full length bedded the barrel, then decided to free float.

Stoney Point tool lying to me? Help

Jaywalker, Rick, And Blaine, I wasn't real clear in my original question. I took ONE measurement with the SP tool and ONE with the 'dummy' case. Then I wondered why the two measurements didn't agree. Thanks guys for all your help. I push firmly on the plastic rod on the SP tool since I...

Stoney Point tool lying to me? Help

Jaywalker, If you will re-read my post, you will notice I said I used the exact same bullet for all the measurements. I normally measure to the ogive and I have the comparator, modified case, ogive inserts, and headspace gauges. So, measuring to the tip of the EXACT SAME bullet is actually...

    Reloading

Amen, Blaine. All the accessories needed (wanted) keep reloading from being an inexpensive hobby. As far as costs go, if you add up the press, dies, scales, measures, trimmers, components, cleaners, gauges, chronies, etc - you would find out you could buy a LOT of factory ammo. Reloading for...

    new rifle for my son

270 WSM or 7mmWSM. You can load down to antelope or up to elk in bullet weights. And the starter loads don't recoil too bad. Stick a towel folded to 3 or 4 thicknesses between the gun and his shoulder so it won't kick him too bad while sighting in, etc. Tell him it simulates the added bulk...

Stoney Point tool lying to me? Help

I've got a problem I'm hoping someone can help me solve. :? I have a Stoney Point OAL gauge. I also made a 'dummy case' for each cartridge I load by cutting 2 slots down the neck. I took a test bullet and put it in the Stoney Point tool, pushed it in the chamber, and while pushing on the...

Need laods for Remington 700 30.06

My custom 30-06 with a 20" barrel likes 54.5 gr Varget and Fed 210M primers pushing a 150 SST. Groups are .75" avg with best being .54" so far. Velocity is 2933 fps which I don't think is too bad for a 20" barrel. I will be trying some Nosler 150 BTs in it soon and I expect the same results.

Bullet overall length - measurement off lands

I think it is also handy to know that 1/4 turn on RCBS seating dies changes seating depth by .009". 1/2 turn would be .018", and one full turn would be .036". Don't know about other brand seating dies, but I suspect they use the same thread pitch, therefore the same change in a turn of the...
