    243 win pet loads

Finally got to the range. The big gain was getting to a decent COAL, using 2.650. Shot 2 groups of 3 shots at 100 in 15 MPH wind. Both were cover-able with a quarter, measured 3/4 inch. Ended up with 45.5 7828. The owner, my brother, was really happy with that, so I am going to stop...

    Loaner Rifle?

Yes. I find that at my ranch, often hunters do not have a decent rifle or have not taken the time to set the scope correctly, or even sight in their rifles. The result is wounded deer and elk. So, I keep a 257 wby mag and a 300 wby mag there. However, those guns are always in sight of either...

    220 swift: Loads

Hi everyone, It has been a few years since I was on the board. Lot of things have happened. I received a 220 swift from my brother's estate when he passed a few weeks back. Bob was the best hunter that I knew, and started me big game hunting and also reloading. I am still cleaning and...

Christensen Arms Carbon Fiber? Any results?

I have had 4 of them. one was amazing! one was good, and the others were pretty so-so. I had a really great 7mm wby with their barrel. but, the next gun was also a 7mm wby mag, and has never short that well. I have a 257 wby that shoots well and another 7mm that is so-so. Bottom line, I...

    Flat Trajectory?

Hi Guy, I like to "hold on meat". that means that a flat shooting gun is a lot more fun. For instance, I shoot a .257 wby at 3400 fps. I can sight in to be flat at 300 yds, and can hold meat clear to 350 or so. the high spot is about 4 inches high. Generally, my shots at under 300 yds, so it...

    .300 weatherby 180 accubond - long range

I load the .300 wby as well. Factory loads from WBY are very hot, but show no signs of pressure. Best groups for me come with imr 7828, 180 gr AB, and Fed primers. That gun can be quite fickle... best of luck, hardpan

How to work up a load

Some great advice here. Here could be a shortcut. I will buy a box of high quality factory ammo. The highest priced so far is WBY at 69 a box. I will shoot it, once the barrel is broken in, and test it using my chrono. If it shoots well, I will check the velocity of the load against the book...

257 Wby and 75 gr Sierra

Hi Wayne, Don't know about the 700 cdl and freebore, But, if you already have sub MOA, Chrono the load, and then you can try to get to a similar velocity with power selection. I generally use the 257 on deer, so 100 gr BTs work great. best, hardpan

257 Wby and 75 gr Sierra

Hi there and welcome... My first inclination would be to talk you out of that bullet. You can push a 100 gr BT at 3400 fps+++, and that bullet is a great fit. I push the 110 AB with IMR 7828 (69.0) grs in 3 different 257 wbys, with great accuracy and around 3400 fps. Use 66.5 gr of 4851 and...

180 gr accubonds vs 200 gr accubonds for 300 RUM

the .300 that I load for shoots retumbo well and shoots imr 7828 well. In fact, that gun shoot bullets from 165 gr, 180 gr and 200 gr all within a 1/2 inch,,, and with either powder. Best shooting rifle that I have ever dealt with.

    Shooting for groups

With my weatherby's I shoot 6 shots, in 2 3 shot groups. I wait at least 10 minutes between shots as I want to know how the gun shoots on a cold barrel. In general, I make my first hunting shot count and I am far more concerned about the accuracy of the first shot than I am about the accuracy...

    Weighing brass?

just did a batch of 50 casings from norma. I have a full 1.5 grs between ends. Generally, I weigh them and sort by weight just after sizing and trimming. I weigh the bullets as well. Not sure if it makes any difference, but I got the idea here on the forum a few years ago. hardpan
