2024 Hunting Season

I was able to get this young buck yesterday evening, believe it or not this is my first mule deer buck. Shot was from 190 yards using the 170 gr Ballistic Tip from my 6.8 Western. Buddy and I were sitting on a timbered ridge separating two clearcuts. All of a sudden he started growing but I couldn't see anything up behind us , my first thought was bear lol. About 45 minutes later I noticed he was staring to our right so I moved a bit to see there better and the buck had come out on a ridge. The Ballistic Tip performed perfectly and the buck went down within about 30 yards. We save the scraps for Buddy so with this and the moose we are all going to eat well this winter!

With the passing of “the Major” I cancelled my Colorado elk hunt, family stuff conflicted. My hunting partner on that trip had a buddy who was able to go in my place. They did well! Pics from near Rifle Co. Today is the opener in Eastern Oregon. I’ll be leaving the house in a few to take my Nephew out.

Yep we were up pretty high and it's starting to come. Won't be too long and we won't be able to get in up there till late spring.

Congratulations, Gerry. He'll provide some fine dining. (y) Yeah, the pooch did you a good job! He deserves some meals.

Don, your friends did well on their hunt. Those are a couple of dandy elk.(y)

Thanks Mike. DanNY and Caleb stopped by and helped cut up Danielle's buck. Seems everyone enjoyed busting my chops that the girls are filling tags except me. Of course that changed a little we they saw one of the bucks in after, a big 8 pt., step out into one of the food plots across the pond. Needless to say, they were impressed.
Yes, we DID enjoy busting Jim's chops. But he took all the ribbing with a good-natured grin.

With all of the comradery, it was fun helping out with Danielle's deer. She clearly appreciated our efforts.

I tried my best to convince Sue and Danielle that they needed engraving (at Jim's expense) on their rifles. I don't think my salesman skills were effective, though.

I shot this small 6x6 on Friday night. I got up to my spot a bit late and this bull was out with about 25 cows. I scanned around and saw one other cow a bit further down the hill but nothing else when I made my crawl to get into shooting position. After the shot I looked down the hill where my hunting buddy killed his bull in 2016 and saw this 340" beast of a bull plus another 300+" bull and a bull with a broken main beam that would of been over 300" too if it wasn't broken.
