Nosler has announced a 22 cal 60 gr BT. I can't wait to get ahold of some for my 22-250. I'm told that they will stabilize in a 22-250 with a 1:14 twist.
Should be just the ticket for coyotes.
Sweeeet.

I already discussed this with Nosler. They will not offer it because the bullet would be too long.

Its not too long for a 7 twist barrel chambered for 22 -243 but i know, too specialized.

Keep asking Nosler, they do listen to what we want/need!
Look at the 338 cal 250 gr AB offereing that was announced for '08, many folks voiced their needs and Nosler responded!

Good luck on getting a 60 grain BT to stabilize in a 22-250 with a 1 in 14 twist. The 55 grain versions will not stabilize adequately in my Remington 700 rifles with 1 in 14 twists, nor my custom Hart barrels with 1 in 14 twists, either.

I was all excited about the 55 grain BT when it came out and rushed out to buy some. I found they shot perfectly lousy in my guns. I called Nosler and the first thing they wanted to know was at what elevation I was shooting. I told them about 300 feet above sea level. They were then not surprised a the lack of stabilization. They claimed the 55's shot better at higher elevations in the thinner air.

They recommended I try the 50 grain BT and I did, never to look back. The 50 grain BT shoots great for me.

But then I have always had better luck with most 50 grain .224 bullets than 55's. The most accurate 55 grain .224 bullet I ever shot was the old fashioned Sierra 55 grain spitzer boat tail. It shot great in a number of rifles.

Bob Hagel wrote any number of times that the most accurate hunting bullet for 22-250's with 1 in 14 twists was the Sierra 50 grain flat base.

I have shared your thoughts but Nosler has told me that the 60 gr BT will stabalize in a 22-250 1:14 twist. I will give them a try and report my findings.

Why does Remington offer the 22-250 in a 1:14 twist :?:

JD338

I imagine Remington offers the 22-250 with a 1 in 14 twist because when they made it a commercial round there were no plastic tipped bullets around and most of the 55 or 60 grain offerings were stabilized just fine.

Before the advent of the polymer tipped whiz bang bullets I never saw a problem with 55 or 60 grain bullets. I shot a lot of 60 grain Hornady bullets, both the HP and soft point, no problems.

My favorite bullet for a long time was the 55 grain Sierra spitzer boat tail.
I switched to the Nosler BT mostly just to be using the latest greatest thing, I guess. I have tried the 55 grain Sierra's, Hornady's and Nosler's with the plastic tips and the Hornady's are the only ones that shoot well in my rifles.

I have also had bad luck getting the 60 grain Nosler Partition to shoot in any of my rifles, even in 223 Remington's with 1 in 12 twists. Really awfull groups, some over 6 inches. The same guns shoot 70 grain Speer semi-spitzer's quite well.

So, I guess you just have to try new stuff to see if it will work for you.

JD, I see you asked them about a 80gr Acc, did you ask about a 60 gr. Acc to compliment the 60 gr. BT. ? Having both would be great.

Gotta love those new fangled plastic tip "whiz bang" bullets. Actually, I do like the way they open up at longer ranges, have better BC & great accuracy.

I have a RRA AR Varmiter 24" that will put 5 60 gr. V-maxes in sub half inch groups. This rifle has a 1-8 twist. I look forward to test these bullets & maybe someday a matching Acc.

nomosendero,

The way it was explained to me, the make up of the AB even at 60 grs is too long to stabalize in all but the fast twists.
Keep asking though and maybe it will happen.

What powders do you guys recomend in the 22-250 with a 60 gr bullet?
I am thinking Varget, IMR 4895 or IMR 4064. I am guessing I am going to need some speed to stabilize this bullut in a 1:14 twist, something in the 3500-3600 range.

RF, any Hodgdon powders you can recomend?

Thanks for your help.

JD338

For the 22-250 Remington my two "go to" powders for any and all bullet weights are H 4895 and Varget. I have tried about everything out there, but you just cannot beat those two in my opinion.

All right Nolser!

I've been shooting the 60g V-max for years in a 223 V/T AR and Ruger V/T 22-250 AI for varmints only because Nosler did not make any. I will love the additional BC. The V-max is a flat base.

When is the due date (forgive me if its listed above)?

Damn! 60g BT seconds aren't even listed on the Nosler Shooter's Pro Shop website.

Time for a 5 mile road trip.

I went to the Shooter's Pro Shop this morning and they have zero 223 60g BT seconds. Not even a cubbyhole for them. Also, seemed there were more empty cubbyholes then full for seconds. Hope they start their run on varmint bullets soon. I need something to do once the snow starts flying. 8)
