I'm going to load Retumbo for my 25 for the first time. I believe this is a magnum powder - i assume since the Nosler Reloading manual doesn't say any different that the WIN WLR primer is the primer that is supposed to be used? also - does it matter? - could I use substitute a magnum primer?

thanks

Welcome to the forum.
A magnum primer can be used in the 25-06 but it isn't necessary. If you were to switch to a mag primer, remember to start low and work up.

Welcome aboard!

Retumbo is what I use with 115's from my .25-06, and I just use a standard primer. Accurate and fast...

Welcome buddy. I only run mags in my 25-06's.

That is some funny stuff you two ! 8)

Bob,
Welcome to the Forum.......
I use CCI BR's in everything that is non-magnum with great results. As stated above, obviously start on the low end of the scale and work up if you're going to use the Mag primer as pressures could certianly change.

Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.

All I"ve ever used is standards is well.

Mags will definately work, just dont think you really need them with an 06 case.

I use 57g Retumbo with 115g NBT, win case, WLR primer, OAL= 3.250", 3250fps.

thanks guys! i'll probably stick with the WIN WLR primer then - if I can ever find any. I want to try out this load with 120 grain Nosler Partitions - I believe it's the lowest load for retumbo/120 grain bullet and the most accurate. I have been shooting 100 grain Partitions with 49.5 g IMR 4831 with good results but wanted to try out the 120. If I stick with a standard primer - can I substitute something for the WIN WLR and have the same ballistics as the reload manual? any recommendations?

If you are starting lower than the max and working up on a load you can use any primer you want.

My Rem 700 Shilen barrel 26" 25-06 will shoot most any 117 or 120 gr bullet very accurately in the 3000 to 3050 fps velocity using 49 grs IMR 4350, Rem case, CCI 250 mag primer. The most accurate bullets for me are the 117 Sierra pro hunter and the Speer 120 grand slam. Those Grand Slams are tough bullets and they shoot one hole groups in my rifle at 100 yards. I like the 117 Sierra the best for the average size deer. If I was to use my 25-06 on and bear or elk it would be with the Grand Slam.
