Got some 140 Partitons to play with in my 280 AI, I've never ran anything this light in the Ackley what powders would you guys recommend ?

62.0-63.0 grs of RL22 with the 140 gr PT should get you where you want to be.

JD338

I'm out of RL22 at the moment but have plenty of the other two mentioned powders I will give them a try...I do have some MRP might try that in place of the RL22..

I had very good luck with RL-17 and the 140 BT and AB in my 280 AI. Might be worth a shot. Some of the best groups my gun has ever produced were with RL-17 and a 14 BT. I see no reason why it wouldn't work for the 140 PT as well.

I'm shooting 150g NABLR but I had far greater success with Viht N165 than any other (including the 4831 SC I expected to use)

Well I have RL17 and N165 so maybe I will try those also..how much of those powders are you guys using ?

MAinAR, 64.5 of H4831SC sounds like a lot in the 280 Ackley Have you ran that load ?

56 gr RL-17 with the 140 Bt gave me 3140 and groups in the .2-.3" range. Jumped up to 57 gr, .5-.6" groups and 3220 fps. I never really tweaked with it much after that, but it was shooting 2 in and one out. I know in this gun I could have gotten that tightened up with seating depth adjustments. I ended I taking a few deer and my Dad took a nice 4x5 bull elk with that load. Impressive results alll the way around!

I tried RL-17 with the 140 Ab and didn't have much luck, RL-22 shined there. I played around with RL-17 with the 150 ABLR as well. I got ok results (sub MOA) but nothing that excited me. Ended up settling on Rl-26 and a 168 ABLR doing 2940 into .3" groups.

I have also tried 4831SC with no luck. 7828 also has given me a few killer loads with anythign over a 150 gr bullet.

Best of luck to you!

Well so far RL17 is winning the race..trouble is I'm running low on this powder, How is the lot to lot consistency of RL17 ?

Yes very good load, magentospeed at 3,190fps single digit es's. .5 moa accuracy. very temperature stable. Best load yet in the longer barrel. Good barrel time.
