That should be very cool once it is completed. What barrel are you going with? Keep us posted. Congratulations on a good move.

The 280 AI is a excellent round with a lot of cool factor.

What rifle are you using? What about the barrel?
What bullet are you planning on using? I have several loads that I can share with you to help get you started.

Sounds great, it is fun to put all together. Like the others have said we need some details :)

The rifle is a model 700. The first rifle I ever purchased when I was 18 years old. Pacnor barrel . Now I need to find a stock. Was thinking about a wood laminate, which is a 180 from what I was initially thinking

Your Rem 700 with a Pac Nor should be an excellent shooter, I'm sure you will be pleased. Now the long wait begins till it is ready.

My 280 AI is a Remington 700 blueprinted action, Hart #5 Fluted 24" barrel, Tubb recoil lug, pillar bedded in a Remington LSS stock.
Scope is a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40mm with CDS dial.

The rifle as shown weighs in at 9 lbs and is set up with a 140 gr AB at 3150 fps and zeroed at 200 yds. The CDS dial is spot on out to 600 yards.

The more i look into this chambering the more I like it. i'm glad the OP posted this, May keep my eye out for a donor action for my wife. I got her a 7mm 08 and she really likes it but before that she handled my '06 just fine and I equate the 7Mag to about '06 recoil wize. Since the .280AI nips the heels of of the 7 Mag it would be excellent for Western hunting for her. I look forward to the OP's pics and range report.

The 280 AI makes for an excellent choice on western game.
I took this WY antelope last fall at 338 yards.

Thanks fellas.
The 280 AI is a very cool round as hardcorehunter5 is about to find out.

What powders should I start working with? I want to place an order so I can get in the "backorder" line.

RL 22 is about the best one. MRP and H4831SC are also good choices. Magnum primers are better than standard primers for accuracy. I am using Federal GM215M primers.
Shot this group last fall with the 150 gr PT

Greetings from Pearl Harbor guys! Pulled in yesterday and I'm happy to say that this boat ride has come to an end for a little while. Mom and I drew out for antelope in NM. That means we'll each be hauling a kid on our back this season, papoose style. Mom is going to use her svelte newly acquired .257 Roberts Kimber Classic Select. Before I left, it was putting factory Nosler 110 ABs under an inch all day long. Considering I'll be hauling the heavier kid, I figure light is the way to go and will be carrying my svelte little Kimber Classic Select in .280AI. Two peas in a pod, right! Didn't have much of a chance to shoot her before I split, but will have until about the end of August to get it figured out. I'm thinking the 150 ABLR should make for a pretty nice compromise of bullet weight, BC, and velocity. I'm a little worried about going to buy RL 22 with everything I've been hearing about reloading supplies being wiped out. Also, I guess that they haven't started shipping the ABLR stuff just quite yet. I suppose I should get a call into Nosler and get on the waiting list. Anyway, I'm excited to get home, be with the family, fire up the press, and get outside! I'll keep you guys posted on my .280AI load development.

Joe,

Good to hear from you. Your planned hunt sounds great. It'll be a lot of fun, no doubt. You certainly have a couple of fine armaments for the job. We'll all look forward to seeing your load work with the 280AI.

Awesome! I love my 280. A 280AI can only be that much better! Highly unlikely, but if I ever shoot my barrel out its gonna get fitted with a 280AI barrel.
