280ai

That is a excellent choice in calibres . I only need my Defiance action which should be here no later than first week of May and the Manners stock should be about the same time :). Getting real excited about this build. I have been able to find 2 cans of RL22 and may have a line on another lb. will know later tonight.
Look forward to seeing your new 280AI hope you get it real quick.

Blessings,
Dan

Here are a few more loads that shoot in my 280 AI....
120 gr BT

140 gr BT

140 gr AB 300 yds

150 gr ET

160 gr AB

A tight group from a favoured rifle is one of the most gratifying sensations in all the world.

You guys are making me itch all over. I can't decide if I would butcher my 'extra' Rem 700 25/06 or let my Ruger .280 go under the knife and have it rechambered.

If I did the Rem it would get a 24" tube, most likely a Lilja. The Ruger has a 22" tube.

If you're going to start with an action, you'll likely enjoy the final product if you start with the Remington, just as Jeff and Jim recommend. I would spend the coin to have it properly tricked out as you will appreciate the end result that much more.

I have heard a lot of negative press on rl22 and temp sensitivity. What has been your experience in that department?

ReLoder 22 is one of my "go to" powders. I often hunt in temperatures approaching -35 (colder than that and I may just stay home). I've never lost an animal due to powder failure. All powders are temperature sensitive--some less so than others. All loads should be tested near the temperature in which one intends to hunt to verify accuracy and/or velocity, especially if one intends to shoot at longer ranges. For competition, perhaps it would be wise to use another powder, though there are other ways to adjust for any temperature sensitivity.

ENABLERS! All of you..... Been salivating for a .280 AI for a while and you guys are making things really tough for me. I am trying to restrain myself from not building one out of an older .30-06 R700

Good luck with your build I am almost sure it'll be shooter

And you're waiting, why? It's not enabling; it's accommodating.

Read what you want but a picture is worth a thousand words.
The 120 gr BT load is with RL 19. All others are with RL 22 and Federal GM215M magnum primers.

I am believing that the 2 calibres for Canada are the 280AI and of course everyones #1 the 35 Whelen 8).
I really hope to be hunting with my 280AI this coming fall

Blessings,
Dan

Ask nicely, Dan, and I may let you borrow my .280 for an afternoon. Of course, that'll be when you are unable to find components for your AI.

Nope, won't lend him ammunition, just the rifle.

Seriously, I hope all of us have access to components by that time, and I do hope that Dan has his rifle in his hands by that point.

Butcher the remington.

Well, I still haven't decided. I saw that Lilja had a 7mm 3 groove 9 twist SS #3 barrel in stock so I ordered it.

Now I could butcher either one. I like both, but the Ruger has a much better trigger.
