I just wanted to thank Nosler for comming out with the e-tips for the 325/8mm. I just returned from a pig hunt in central Kalifornia and had to load TSX bullets. Not good! It killed the pig but sure didn't perform like Nosler bullets do. The guide looked at the pig and asked (in a non complimentary manner) what the @#%&! kind of bullet are you using?
Next time they WILL be Nosler 8)

Greg,

Give us the details of the hunt, bullet performance, etc.

Greg,

Glad that the pig was dead. The 8mm E-Tip will be a real bonus. I have ordered some for loads (also 100 grain .257, 140 grain .284 and 168 grain .308). Hopefully, we won't wait too long for them here in the north.

Sadly, I didn't take pictures
I hunted with a guide in rolling grassy hills that had valley oaks and chaparral scattered in the draws of Southern Monterey County. The rainfall has been so scarce that the water sources had become few and what pigs there were existed only on the huge ranches in the area.
About 1:30 PM we came to a steep narrow valley where the creek ran and the grass grew green. We started to see sign and finally walked up on two hogs eating grass. They spooked and ran across at about 50 yards. I swung for a head shot on the lead hog and hit the shoulder-spine junction. She went down hard but wasn't dead so a finishing head shot ended it. The wound was odd in that it hit from a perpendicular angle yet the wound ran about 4" along the spine like it had been split open from a straight frontal or rear shot along the spine or the bullet had fragmented badly and blown upward from the spine. ?? It didn't waste much meat and of course the bullet wasn't recovered. The 325 WSM has taken hogs before with ease, but this time I felt undergunned with the uncertain upset characteristics of the TSX. The new lead-free law has caused a lot of grief for the guide also. In the 30 years he's guided he's never had so many wounded hogs get away or require as many hits to kill them. I truely think the e-tips will help to solve this problem.
