At the shot, the elk was smacked to the ground. As we were walking up to it, it jumped up and took off running. NEver did get a 2nd shot as it was pretty thick crap, and we never did find the elk, blood trail ran out. I know that this was probly a fluke as it was only once, but when you see something like that, you really dont want it to happen again. I would second JD's advice on the heavier 225g slug vs. the lighter 200g.
