8mm Rem Mag - Rem 700 BDL picking up tomorrow

Thanks for the new Quad Lock Weaver type rings, I really do like them especially since they will provide actually more tension hold on my scope considering the recoil.

Looks great Mike. The 8mm mag has some power that's for sure. I would bet if it had a 26 inch barrel it would rival the 300 rum speed wise. Can't wait to see the bullet picts and groups.

Bill

Bill, I was running the numbers through QL and man, even with that 24" barrel, it really gets it! When you get up into the 220's well, that is when it seems to take off..

What are you running this year for elk?

Yes it do. I will be running 220gr Hornady interlocks this season and maybe 220 Sierras in the future. Could not imagine a 200 Partition being a bad choice either but the 220's really shine in the 8mm.

Mike,

Congratulations on the 8mm Rem Mag. It is one fine looking rifle. Nice pictures of the rifle and loaded round. I like the scope, makes for a great looking set up.

My .30-8mm gives up about 50-75fps to a .300RUM but uses way less powder doing it.

And after you burn out the barrel Mike.... a 8mm RUM?????????????

You know that you are no good don't you   I ain't going to do to this one what I did with the last twenty rifles I have owned  really, I am telling the truth  At least I believe it

Bullet,
That is an awesome looking set-up. Pictures are perfect. The 8-Mag. has a lot of horse power, given the 220 bullet at 3,000 fps, should flatten anything you go after. Anxious to see your Range results buddy.

Bill, were you able to score some 220 Hornady's?

Fotis hooked me up a while back with about 200 or slightly more so I have enough for hunting but would like to get more if I can find any.

Bill

Yeah, I imagine those would last awhile for you. Seems like they dropped that bullet just before the WSM came around. Too bad, as the 220 Interlock should be a pretty tough customer.

Whats the chances of pushing one of them into the jugs for us? I don't think I have seen many of the recovered 8mm's other than your TSX..

Yeah, I am anxious to see my first results as soon as I can pull away from my work schedule.

For 220 grain bullets in my 325WSM, I'm running A-Frames. They work very well for me. I do have some Norma 225 grain and some very old Speer 225 grain .323 bullets that I haven't loaded yet, but I would imagine they will work quite well.

Will be testing only two bullets for this rifle right now. The 220gr Sierra, 200gr AccuBond and for my extremely dangerous game hunts if taken again I will use the 220gr A-Frame, but don't have to test that one until I have one of those hunts lined up.

Bullet,
I may have missed this earlier in the thread but what powders are you starting out with in load development?

Bullet,
Good Powder choices. I would think one of them would work.

I sure am hoping so and actually feel from my experience with my 300Wby and 340Wby that one of these three will deliver. Been wrong before, but if I was a betting man, I would put my money on RL-25 for the 220gr Sierra SBT and I won't even begin work with the 200gr AccuBond until I am finished with the 220gr Sierra.

RL-25 is a great choice for the 220's and RL-22 (which I am running) with 220's isn't bad either.
