8mm Rem Mag - Rem 700 BDL picking up tomorrow

Bill, that is what I am hearing from all you guys who load 220gr bullets for the 8mm Rem Mag, so I figure from all the research and reading and my past experience with big mags I will give these first go.

Yes, IMR7828ssc and H-1000 but I am out of them at the present. If RL-25 or RL-22 do not meet my expectations I will be forced to buy some powder.

7828 gave me great accuracy but was slower than the RL 22. Never tried H-1000, may need to do so.

Bullet,
I would think too one of the Reloader Powders should do it for you.

Yes, that is why I am trying Reloader powder first

That bizarre. In my .338 Baer 7828 and R-22 are within 20fps of each other. I use 1gr more 7828 then R-22. That is also the case with the various versions of .30 calibers I've built on the 8mag case.

RL-22 and IMR7828ssc were always neck and neck in my 300Wby Mark V and Ruger #1 300Wby. They also would switch back and forth in accuracy depending on bullet used.

Wish that was the case as I do like 7828 very much. Never did try it with the 220's though, might be worth a peek see.

This is just me, but I have found 7828 and RL22 to be about the same, but RL22 always giving me a little accuracy edge, and a couple of FPS. I have seen alot of data showing Norma MRP being better in speed than those two. I know Mike (Bullet) has had really good luck with MRP, and being as I have a local store at home that stocks Norma, I am thinking I am going to give it a try. I do like RL22 alot, it is really good in the 7WSM and 270WSM. It might be good in the 300WSM as well, with the 200's. I think MagPro might be worth a look as well.

I have recently just had excellent results with RL25 in my 264WM. Never really used it much in the past, but I am going to give it a look a little more often in the big burners. It was really consistent for me, whereas I had a heckuva hard time getting Retumbo to be consistent in the 264.

I can't wait to see what you do with the big 8 Mike. After seeing what you got and the other 8's out there for sale, it looks like you got a great deal.

Yes, with God's help and my friend FOTIS, I ended up with a rifle and cartridge I have wanted off and on for years. I have half a pound of MRP left and if RL-25 or RL-22 do not satisfy me I will try my MRP, but it is not carried down here by anyone so I have to order it and have it shipped to me and that gets expensive indeed. I will be trying hopefully tomorrow morning and will give you a 220gr through some jugs. I will only be testing tomorrow the 220gr bullet. I don't like to test a couple of different bullets when shooting something like a 340Wby or this 8mm Rem Mag. I will try the 200gr AccuBond later.

I would love to try MRP but around here it's just not available. I know of 1 1lb can and that is it. 7828 is a great powder and it was the cats azz in my 338 O"Bryan and it shoots very well in my 8mm but for what ever reason it was slower.

I was wrong on an earlier post ( I'm as shocked as you guys ). I did shoot 7828 with the 220's and at 82gr velocity was 2855 where RL-22 at 79.5 is at 2960. Might be able to run the 7828 up a few more grains and see what shakes out. Magpro also did pretty well speed wise, 86 gr turned in 2930 and all these were with the Hornady 220's and I would suspected a 220 Sierra to run higher.

Bill

Anyway you shake it Bill, 2900 with the 220's is going to be serious Whhooopppeemm!

I suspect I will get 3000fps plus or minus a few feet a second, just hope I also have accuracy at those velocities.

Oh I'm sure you will.
