Bear Rifles

I reshot the 72 grain load, shortened the OAL by .015 and it seems to be shooting pretty well..

At least good enough for that big bullet.. 3.315 COAL (2637, 2629, 2637, 2618)

I think 2600 with that 275 is pretty impressive.. I am contemplating loading those up for some bear hunting, as most shots will probably be much closer and those would sail through any bear, from about any position!

That looks like a winner Scotty. You must have shot that group before the 338 wore you out. :)

I took it easy with the 338 yesterday, plus I mixed in the 7mm Mauser.. The 25-06 and 7mm Mauser are absolutely awesome to shoot. The 338 isn't actually bad though, I was just making poor excuses for my inattention!

Right on my friend I have a TC Contender barrel in 7-30 waters that was very accurate and a real hand cannon. I had a Gun Smith put a barke on the barrel and it was the worse thing I could have done. The muzzel blast was so bad it made me flinch and the accuracy of the barrel went south because of a poor installation. Magnums have more than one way of wearing us down. :)

Those 275 gr Speer's definitely look like a bear load, Scotty.

Yeah, while not tack drivers, they are plenty accurate and pretty speedy for a 275.. Thinking I wanna use them, just cause...

I think you have them grouping very well and there's no doubt they should stop a bear in it's tracks. That bullet wasn't designed to be a tack driver but a good hunting bullet.

I hope so, it is my first go around with Swift's and while it isn't a tack driver, it looks plenty consistent. I ordered up another 50 of them. Should be enough for practice and hunting. Overall, it came together pretty quickly. Now, I am going to get it zeroed for her and let her have it. Want to get her shooting out to 300 with it. The rifle is a GREAT shooter though. I really enjoyed working with this 25-06.

Minute of a bear is not too small an area. If they can shoot 2 inch groups they are minute of a bear certainly and "just cause" is a good enough reason. I used them on elk and they are a stone killer out to 300 yards which should be far enough for bear.

Scotty, I have a new box of Woodleigh 250 gr. .338 Weldcore PP SN you should try out? They shot extremely well in various 338's I've had, and hold up a lot better then the Speer's that have separated from there jackets in some cases. I've used Woodleigh's in more then a few calibers and they do shoot and tune quickly.

What do you need for them?

Always wanted to try them in my 338. I know the Woodleighs are excellent bullets. Just for the heck of it, I'd like to jug test them.

I tested them in wet phone books....... blew through six of them, water jugs would be a waste of time. They have a nice blunt nose front to pack a wallop when they hit thick skin. I paid $58.99 for a box of 50. I'll ship them for free.
