Bought a Donor

Have you made your mind up on the chambering?
After picking up a 35 Whelen last year I have a hole at .375 caliber. My son has a 378 Wby , but I’m out at that caliber. I’m leaning towards 375 H&H or possibly a 375 Wby. 8mm Rem is intriguing , but I’m waiting on my 340 Wby to get done which would clone it.

I have shot 375 H&H and the 375 H&H AI in rifles. My brother-in-law and his hunting buddy had them.
Something about the 375 H&H just rings of a classic cartridge to me for some reason.
I do not even remember what the performance level of the old H&H is.
Even the 300 H&H sounds cool, even though I have never considered getting one.

Yup. I got another box coming off of ebay that I’m going to mod. Hopefully I can solves this issue and move on.

Ah, go on - shoot it first. What have you got to lose if it shoots great?
I haven’t seen a Howa/Vanguard that doesn’t shoot. Shucks I have no 300 WM brass laying around😁. I have plenty of 30 Cals no 375.

My Peterson basic brass showed up today.

Monday if I make home from work early enough (calling for bad weather again) , I will give Shilen a call.

I gave Shilen a call this afternoon and talked to a nice lady. She walked me through my order , leaving me feeling good about them. The only downer is there’re out 5-7 months.

A progress update.
Today the stock and dies showed up. The stock is a Weatherby/Boyds laminate from a take off rifle that Weatherby offers. The front lug is bedded and fits my receiver perfect. The barrel channel will have to be opened up once I get my new barrel. Dies are a little pricy for this caliber. A muzzle brake is on the to do list yet.

The mag box issue also has been resolved and feeds.

I like the 8mm RM, but I was equally pleased with my 325 WSM which was more than capable of taking anything I'd ever encounter here in BC. I found it pleasant to shoot and it was very easy to find an accurate load for the rifle.
Probably two of the most underrated calibers of all times.

Very nice looking rifle in a very cool chambering.
Looking forward to you getting the barrel and putting it together.

PM me with your email address and I'll send you load and chrono data from my 375 Weatherby.
With the 300 gr. NAB I've been using H4350 and RL-17.
