food plots

our soybeans got to about 10 or 12 inches high , and the deer destroyed those food plots . they ate the soybeans down to about 2 inches high . we are going to replant those fields this coming weekend with some kind of a seed blend , I think it's called fall plot . get that replanted and we are done , no matter what happens , the club is out of money . counting the cost of the soil samples , seed , fertilizer , we spent right at $5500 this year on the food plots . that does not include equipment , like the new discs , fuel , broadcast spreader , things like this .

Thought you guys would like to see one of my bucks in velvet…saw a little sparing action on trail camera already.. bucks checking and doe checking their scrap lines..I hear they do that all year, but I’m seeing it this year… it’s been drier lately and they are getting ahead of growth.. so food plot getting shorter.. probably won’t make fall at this rate.. will oversees in 2-3 weeks and hit it with some fertilizer…

Got my last food plot tilled. This makes #4.
My food plots are small and not very far from thick cover. The deer are in them at all hours of the day.

Yesterday I seeded down the area where the beans died out and a small plot where I set up my bow blind. Beans that are growing are about 6” tall and flowering , usually they’re thigh high by now.
This year’s growing season has been a challenge for sure.

Again- you guys impress me. I am also amazed that at this late date- (early august) you can get food plots to grow. Course I am stuck in MN. Few weeks are all that is left of the growing season for most things. Wish my tomatoes would start ripening- looking good. CL

What I seeded in is design for a fall plot. Turnip , rape , and kale as a fall mix.
This year has been a challenge to say the least.

I tilled and reseeded 4 of my food plots on 7/31.
They are starting to take off. The deer are in them at all hours of the day.
