How does a guy have six .30-06 in his safe? I have five complete rifles and one barreled action are what I now own. One is slotted to be a .338-06 so that will leave me with four complete rifles and a barreled action. I think I need to get back down to one .30-06 as I can't see a need for more than one.

That is a bunch. At one time I had 2, a M700 BDL and a M742 ADL. No wories, you are in good shape for some new builds. 8)
Off the bat, maybe a 25-06 and a 280 Rem/280 AI.

JD338

I had 5 at one time, now I have one, an 03. The 06 is a great hunting round, I used one or more for several years. I moved up to a super 06 (300 win mag) in 1969 and have never felt the desire to own another. For deer there are few better, for elk at long range there are better.

And I thought my having 12 rifles, different calibers, was kind of excessive.

I think a couple rifles will go bye-bye very soon, I just don't need that many.

Only six? Talk to Kurt, he may have some suggestions.

At least you picked up a bunch of rifles in a useful chambering... somehow I managed to get four .270s... I swear they are for donors!

At lest you have no overlap!

Yeah, nothing like already owning a .25-06, 6.5-06, .270, 8mm-06, .338-06 and two Whelen rifles to complement my 06 collection, and I reload for the .280 I let my BIL talk me out of. Besides that, I own two .30-30, .
300 Savage and a .300 H&H to round out my collection of .30 calibers.

Clearly you need to rebarrel a couple of your 30-06's to 280 and 9.3x62 to round out your already impressive line up of standard long action cartridges.

I know one of these days I have to slow down collecting rifles in duplicates!

I have duplicates of .204, and .243 as well as three .223 rifles. Besides my rifles in .243, .25-06, 6.5-06, and .35 Whelen I have a 6x47, .250-3000(not counting my daughters) , 6.5x55, and a .358 Win to round things out in the duplicate calibers. I've got serious overlap issues don't you think?

I need to build me one of those .300 Normas like Jeff.

Six is a lot of .30-06 rifles! There's only one in my safe. Some dispute between me and my son about who's rifle it is... May have to buy him a new .30-06 so he'll leave mine alone! He's used it more than me the past couple of years. Danged kid.

Yeah, Guy, kids get that way as they grow up. And us old codgers get testy about it. It's easier to buy them something new than for us to let go of our memories.

One cannot own too many 30-06's or 1911 pistols. I currently have 8 rifles in 30-06. 1. M-1 Garand 2. 1903 Springfield 3. Mod. 54 Winchester 4. FN Supreme 5. 1903 Springfield sporter 6. 1950 Husqvarna 7. Husqvarna "Husky" (short forearm and schnabel) 8. S & W Model D (Husqvarna-made) w/mannlicher style stock. Yeah, I like Husqvarnas! Don't get me started on my Krags. LOL

I have four M70 Classics, two blued and two stainless steel, and three are feather weights. Then an old JC Higgins M50 FN Mauser, and a camo Stevens 200 to wrap things up in the .30-06 department. I'm thinking I should just keep the two SS M70's sell off the rest, and just use them for elk and foul weather rifles. The M70 sporter in SS will become the .338-06 and I'll put the SS FWT into the McMillan FWT stock I have a blued FWT in.

So that will leave me with a M70 FWT rifle and barreld action, the Higgins and Stevens to sell. That should help me to off set the cost of the new .338-06 build as well.

A 45 and a 30-06! What more does a kid need?

Having a few extra cant hurt. You never know when there may be a shortage. As a matter of fact I don't and havn't owned a 30-06. I think I feel a need comming on. 8)
