Any recommendations for loading this beast??

Primary purpose is steel out too 100 yards?

G'Day Mortis,

I'll have a look thru my reloading/chrono records, and see what I can find!
I have loaded these lighter bullets in my .338 Win Mag, and I think I used a faster than usual powder for this!!!

Doh!

Barnes list 73.5 grains of IMR 4831 as their confidence load for the 185 grain TSX BT. They get 3046 fps in a 24 inch barrel. Other powders used include Varget (63.5 grains max), AA 2700 (70.0 grains max), IMR 4350 (71.5 grains max), Hunter (78.5 grains max) and H 4831 SC (76.0 grains max).

Thanks for the info so far.....

I made a booboo.....meant to say 1000 yards....not 100..... DOH!!!!!

...looks like that load will be hitting "sub-sonic" just past 1000yds, you might want to consider trying a 200gr. AB or 215gr. SBT for a lighter target load...

I was going to mention that, if it's an option. If that is the case, and you can use another bullet, I know the 200 AB will hit 3000 pretty easily with around 75-76 grains of RL19 in WW cases, lit off with CCI250's..

If not, I would bet RL15 would work decently with the lighter 185. I used it a little with the 180 BT's and AB's and it worked decently.

Obviously you can do whatever you want, but I'd much rather shoot a 250 grain Sierra or Berger for 1000 yard steel with a .338 WM...
