Charles, long time, no see. Welcome.

How is it going Charlie? I've got bullets on order for that .340 and will start hand loading for it soon!

Charles, me too and I am ready for the range. Have been fighting Staph pneumonia but am getting better and weather is warming gradually to about 60*F.

Update me on how you do with the .340 and I will do same, nice to hear from you.

Will do sir!

Aleena sorry I never caught this till just now as I'm still not getting e-mail updates. I sure apologize for the remarks of one that in now way shape or form are how the rest of us think of you and of your family. It's really easy being a coward when you can hide behind a keyboard. Things like that person said are unwarranted and uncalled for. Please don't give up on us because of one, because as you can see by the posts missy, that there are an awful lot of good people who enjoy having you here with us, me included! :)

Shoot that 280 with those loads you have and post some pictures for us. I for one would really like to see a shot or two of the rifle as well. They build gorgeous firearms.

Deleted by MJS. I don't need to respond in kind. Shame on me for letting my outrage show.
You are a good man Mike. No shame on you, shame on him.

+ 1. I agree with David,

but I also appreciate the support from all the gentlemen here---Thank you.

As I told Jim and David via pm our life is very full right now, but we will be back when things settle down a little.

To add a little humor here, when I start up that mountain, I might wish I was home knitting LOL

Charlie, that was an exciting and definitely an adrenaline hunt for your son, congrats to him,

jmad 81--thank you, for the information, I will pass it along to the fellow doing our reloading for us

Charles, good luck with the 340 loads, and "Thank you"

Back to the tread mill, figuratively and literally ---thank you all for your support gentlemen

Guess I'll jump in here and say, African Huntress, you are one classy lady. There are some great people on this site, all willing to help. I can say that with some athourity as they have helped me along the way. Best of luck to you on your upcoming hunt. We will all be anxiously waiting to hear the stories.

Life's too short to pay any attention to those who contribute nothing.

And I have a sneaky feeling, that while hiking over hill and dale on a hunt, most of us could only dream of, what's-his-name won't exactly even enter her conscious.

Go forth and have a fantastic hunt. I know, at least for myself, I'd give an important part of my anatomy for a hunt like that.

Aleena,

Congratulations on your upcomming Ibex hunt! That is going to be quite an adventure.
I would recommend the 140 gr AB in the 280 AI.
Loaded with 63.0 grs RL 22 and a Federal GM215M Magnum primer should get you 3150 fps in your rifle. Very fast, accurate and powerful for long range hunting.
With a 200 yd zero, you will be 1.1" high at 100 yds, -5.9" at 300 yds, -17.1" at 400 yds, and -34.4" at 500 yds.
My second choice would be the 140 gr PT.

Good luck on your hunt and let us know if you have any more questions.

Jim, thank you. Your advise was spot on

We are not home yet, but thought a couple of you fellows might be interested in a quick update.

Jerry and i had hunted these animals before and to be honest would have never gone back. It is a tough hunt. however a very close friend of ours had hunted all over the world with her grandfather, but he passed away before they could hunt the Marco Polo together. He had hunted then before with her grandmother, so she was determined to hunt in his footsteps, so to speak. and now she has. Jerry did not hunt but did accompany us, mainly so that two females would not be hunting alone in that part of the world.

We hunted at approx 14000 feet, stayed all but two nights in yurts. Two nights we stayed in spike camps. The truck drive was long, then horseback, and then hike. It was very cold, windy, and rocky

She was successful and got a 54" sheep and a 40" Ibex. She used the same gun her grandfather had used, a 275 H & H with 160 gr woodleigh. Her sheep shot was 410 yds. I used a 280AI with a 140 gr Nosler AB. My sheep and Ibex were very close to the same size as hers. My sheep was only 295 yds, which was pretty close, but it took some extra effort and time to pull off getting that close. and the wind was in the correct direction. Many things were favorable for me We concluded, successfully, an eight day hunt in five days.

Jim, again, thank you

Dr. Mike. a side note.. She says that the 160 gr woodleigh that she is using in her 275 H & H also works better than anything else she has tried in her 280 Ross

We are still traveling, so will not be able to respond for a few days. Satellite connection here is not good so I hope this came through alright.

Aleena,

Congratulations on your successful hunt. What an adventure!

Outstanding! Congratulations on what had to be an incredible hunt. Thanks much for the info you've provided. Tough conditions, hunting at 14,000' - wow - I've only climbed that high a very few times in my life, mountaineering here on the west coast.

Looking forward to seeing a few photos from the hunt!

Regards, Guy

A great report Aleena. Congratulations to each of you. Consequently, I've already come to the conclusion that the 160 Woodleighs are about as good as I can get for the Ross. I cleaned out my local GS of all they had on hand.

Congratulations on a great hunt, AH. And good job taking your friend out to finish what she never had the chance to tie up with her grandfather. You did well.

Interesting post amongst the other congratulatory posts.

I am sure she will be along to answer your question fotis, but I do know from a different forum that she had not used Nosler products, but has the utmost respect for Jim and Scotty and felt comfortable with their recommendation. Plus I notice early on in this thread several fellows recommended the AB. She had always used I believe Swift A Frames, woodleigh, and some some other company in South Africa, but I forgot their name.

I would be interested in what Nosler product you would have recommended ?

A, congratulations on having a successful hunt and for helping your friend achieve her dream hunt as well.
