Brian,

Beautiful! You are going to love it.
Also try H 322. 59.0 grs with the 300 gr BST went .400".
Excellent choice on the scope too.

Well, look at that. Another convert to the 45-70. Watch out hogs and deer. Good looking rifle, Brian.

I'm glad you didn't leave the price tag showing on the powder. It would make me cry.

Really nice rifle! The ol' Marlin .45/70 is quite a rifle, suitable for hunting pretty much anything.

Nice scope too - that's the one I'd like to get, to replace the old 2-7x Redfield on my Number One.

Thanks guys! This rifle should come in real handy in the thick stuff.

DrMike,

Would $24 make you cry? I just found some for $22 today.

Can you see the tears in my eyes? Ouch. It always makes me cry when I see the prices in the States. Most Hodgdons powders are $31.95 here. And the Canadian dollar is stronger than the greenback!

Brian,

that rig is just ozing with sex appeal!
Keep your eyes open for some 458 300 gr PP partitions. It is one serious bullet that is capable of taking anything in NA.

Let us know how she shoots.

Jim,

I will try some if can find them but no luck yet. The XLR does have that look about it but so does most lever rifles. Gonna try and roll some rounds for it this weekend.

Looks really good Brian! Glad you got it all set up now. You should be able to make those 300's sing with H4198. I know it works well in my Guide Rifle. Can't wait to get shooting. I know my rifles have been neglected a bit.

Mike, where I buy powder (Green Top), Hodgdon powders are right around 20.00 a lb and IMR and Alliant are usally a buck cheaper most of the time. Scotty

Arrrgh, you're killing me, Scotty. Alliant powders are especially high here ($39.99). IMR is identical to Hodgdon. One day I may make it back to the land of cheap powder.

I was in Greentop today and they have gone up on some powders. They had most Hodgdon powders for $22. It took all of ten minutes and i had an arm load of stuff.

At least they are still reasonable. They are my number one stop for powder and primers. They keep a pretty good selection. Scotty

I was in the local Bi Mart the other day and walked by the gun counter. A Marlin Guide Gun leaped out of the rack and into my hands as I passed by ! It was priced well buttttt more than what I have available right now. Maybe this fall when I get my Cabelas coupon. We will see. !!

Bill,

That was a very close call. I'd hang out in there for a few more days to see if that repeated itself.

DrMike

I was thinking about that this morning. !!! I am still going to wait for my annual $100 certificate from Cabelas pus my $100 in points and any other rebates that they may have. Usually these occur around Christmas time. I can wait that long - - - I think!

I still do not have my final load developed for the "last two" rifles I bought. I need a little tweaking with the AOl on both. Bullets and loads are good just trying to get consistency. The pillars are completed for the 300 B and the new dials for both scopes came day before yesterday so I have all of the stuff together. The STW came back two days before I started on a kitchen remodel for the neighbors so I haven't got to that yet. I have to full length all of my fired cases (over 100) and pull and resize the loaded ones, because they set the barrel back one thread. On the construction side I have not started on the new flooring , cabinet, toilet for our entry way as yet. Recently my wifes, life long friend has moved near to us and you should see the list on the home she purchased. I sometimes wonder why I am not doing enough shooting ???? Maybe I need a job ??? Life is greathowever as my Wyoming elk tag came in the mail yesterday !!!!
