node help

Muzz,
What you see there above is what you have...

Things I see.... RL26 is a little too slow burning for the Ackley if one is trying to use barrel time for accuracy... Node 4 is way over pressure and node 5 is way under pressure.... Neither will work.

As Scotty mentioned.... RL22, MRP, IMR 7828ssc, and maybe RL23 (no experience with it myself)... This is the burn range that works with the capacity of the 280 Ackley for the required barrel times.

That said.... There are accurate loads that aren't on nodes... These loads are fine.... A little more finicky about temperature and stuff, but perfectly usable as long as you're familiar with them.

If you want a "node load"... You're gonna need a different powder.... Or you can use the data above and find a load that works for you.

3,050 fps is PLENTY of velocity for what you're wanting.... Plenty!

This is using a true BC.... With the 150 ABLR at 2500 feet elevation (higher elevation makes it even better), 30 degrees F, 20 mph crosswind .... Even at a lowly 3,050 fps the 150 ABLR is an 800 yard deer killer, and will do elk at 600.

This pic is gonna be big.... On my phone... Can't edit it....

That.... I mean....

The one you did at 3.38" shows that to be the pressure of 63.5 grains at that length....

I'm asking for the pressure of 63.5 grains at 3.506" at the calculated burn rate (.393 Ba)....

Thank you for your work and time gentleman. I agree I need another powder. I'm gonna look for rl 23 or mrp. I'll still try the load you suggested also.

Again I thank all of you for your time and help. My hat is off to you all.

RL17 might be good, but you aren't going to get quite the speeds out of it you would 7828 or 22. I would bet you would get 3050 or better though. I like RL17, very versatile powder for me. Top speeds in the 338 Win and 35 Newton with heavier bullets. It is like the 4350's, just faster FPS for about the same PSI's. It wouldn't hurt to try it if you can.

I have no idea what your H20 capacity is, but the PSI and FPS will show you were top end would be approximately.

If it were me, I'd give 7828 a shot. Very similar to RL22, RL23 and MRP....

Use the default case capacity.... The numbers say it is close enough (74 grains)

My rifle is 74 grains.... My thread says 73.9 because I forgot to edit it.... But as my sample size grew it ended up at 74 grains.

The reason I say 74 is because if it was 72... That load he been shooting would have blown primers everywhere.

What is the max psi for the 280ai?
And does anyone shoot the 7828ssc out of there's? I have 2 pounds of it and the stuff is everywhere to buy.

65,000 psi....

Lots of people use 7828.....JD338 to name one, but he uses it with 168's I believe.

It was my 2nd choice... And I'll still likely work with it some in the future.

The one you did at 3.38" shows that to be the pressure of 63.5 grains at that length....

I'm asking for the pressure of 63.5 grains at 3.506" at the calculated burn rate (.393 Ba)....

Sorry RR. Had stuff to do. Reran it and reset Ba. Must have left something set in the changes.

Earlier they had it at 68.100 h20

muzz,
It's due to the difference in seating depth of the bullet. I think the 68.1 is the 3.506 COAL load. Shallower seating allows more space and vice versa. Scotty used the default COAL, thereby his capacity is correct.

No problem... Thanks for your help.

I knew it was gonna be around 70k psi.... Just wanted it put out there for muzz to see.
