Polymer Sig Handguns?

I was curious to poll those of you here who have experience with Sigs polymer handguns, particularly the P320 and P365 series' and to ask what you think of them. Up to now I had heard nothing but minor qualms about either of these guns, but I just recently encountered some anti-Sig sentiments about the function of these guns and a supposed disregard for safety on Sig's part. I am not convinced that there are outstanding problems yet, but I am aware that they made some changes to the trigger a while back in response to some drop safety issues that people reported. I don't really consider any gun truly drop safe, you should avoid dropping a gun as much as possible, so this didn't strike me as being anything outrageous to find that some people did in fact have it go off when dropped. And they did make some changes to help, so I just didn't think much of that. In addition there have been some absurd lawsuits trying to blame the gun for negligent discharges over the years, so I wonder if some people are just trying to take advantage of the fact that it hasn't been around as long as a Glock in order to play victim. Then again, if Sig does have problems with these guns they are most likely going to try to downplay it as much as possible and point to their military contract that was probably primarily won due to meeting the modualar requirement, which I do not believe any other submission did, not necessarily because it was the best gun in the batch. So I don't know and haven't heard enough reliable opinions to expect any major problems with the P320 and P365 series pistols.

Anyway, I wanted to hear from those that have had some personal experience with these handguns and what their take on them is.

I got out before we switched to the 17/18(320), so I have no real-world experience. My opinion is that they look incredibly ugly, but I don't think that answers your question. I also like to avoid dropping guns, but have done so on many occasions both at work, and concealed carry, an you are correct; the only drop-safe gun is the unloaded one. But, if there are problems as people have described, it's more than just dropping that is at issue. I saw one video purporting to show a police officer's issued 320 discharging while secured in the holster. Note, I did not say while holstering or unholstering, but while sitting secure. Is that the pistol? I don't know. It is possible that the department's armorer made some unwise modifications. But - but - if it is the firearm, I would consider that too much of a risk.

I know someone who has a 365 and seems to like it very much.

And, in case you wondered, I don't own any Glocks. They are very good, though.

Hope some of this helps.

I have both: A P320 Compact in .40 and a P365.

My P365 is one of the earlier ones, and while I know there were initially reports of broken firing pins with some of them, I have had no issues with mine. I absolutely love the way it handles for such a small weapon and carrying it is very easy in an IWB holster. 10 rounds standard, and more if you want the extended mags. Great CCW gun.

The P320 is on it's way out the door. I just don't like the way it shoots for me. Maybe the 9mm would be different, but I bought it to replace a G23 which I wasn't crazy about, either. Don't know, don't care. I think I've found the one I'm looking for to replace the P320: a gently used HK VP40. I've only put a few rounds thru it, but I'm liking how it handles and the ergos. Better at controlling the recoil, as well.

I don't know what to make of the AD situation. There are anecdotes, but since replacing the original factory trigger with a lighter-weight factory trigger, Sig claims the problem is fixed and has not been duplicated in a controlled test. So far, I think they've won every court challenge to that.

I own four Sigs, a P320, a P365XL, a P229 and a P226 (old German model). I have literally shot the sh-- out of them and not once have had a problem. The 320 issue is perpetuated a lot by Glock owners who have forgotten the glocks had the same trigger issue hence the comment "Glock leg". Sig solved the issue with a change and have not had any further issues. The Military has many P320's of different configurations and has not had a problem. My P320 probably has 5000 rounds through it and is still going strong. Fun gun to shoot and is very accurate. The Glock forum crew has beaten this issue to death.

I only own one SIG handgun, a P220. It has no safety catch. SIG believes a gun's safety is between one's ears.Whaat I have read on the 320 and 365 SIGs is mostly good for the 365 and some serious badmouthing on the 320. One set of comment I heard was that the version of the 320 issued to our military had a safety catch but that was not found on the ones for civilian sale. I just may have to hit my LGS one of these days for a look see. Frankly, the esthetics of these polymer handguns strikes me as extremely butt ugly. I do suppose if one had one it might grown on you like a cancer but I'm more attracted to all metal handguns even if they do weigh more. besides, that extra weight helps dampen recoil on my poor arthritic hands.

Now Washington wants to ban the P320.

It is kind of weird to me how I keep seeing so many attacks on these pistols. Maybe it has just become the AR of the pistol world in America. Now that it is a military side arm and everybody knows the gun, all the anti gun people maybe are trying to take advantage of it's reconizability to try and restrict it. Just pick the most popular gun you can restrict perhaps? I don't know, it's just kind of weird.

Oh, but pardon my abbrviated explanation, this specific instance sounds like it is specifically for the gun's use by law enforcement agencies.

My wife carries the 365. Great little pistol. With the Wilson combat grip module it is extremely comfortable to shoot for so small a gun. My wife’s gun is the manual safety version and I have no doubts to it’s safe function

I have 2 polymer Sig 365s, a micro compact and a x macro. The micro compact conceals very well but if defiantly harder to shoot being a smaller gun. The x macro is recent purchase and so far I really like it a lot. It is easier to shoot and still conceals well. I can't help you with the 320s, all of mine are the AXG line and metal framed, but I do like them a lot also. On the drop safe issue, I haven't had and negative experiences with either my 365 or 320s. That being said I have dropped any of mine, either accidentally or on purpose as a test. I will say, both of my regular EDC 365s have a manual safety on them. If you want more information, especially on the 320, the is a Sig forum that the issue on 320s have been discussed over and over on it. Might be worth looking at for information on either gun.

My wife carries a SIG P365XL Macro as her carry guns. It has a SIG red dot that came with the pistol. She really likes it and shoots it well. I've shot it and its pretty accurate. The integral compensator built into the slide really keeps the muzzle rise to a minimum. She/we haven't had any issues with it.
