Was wondering if any of the reloaders out there have tried this number yet or not? I'm a bit curious if it is close to RL15 in burning rate. The charts put it slightly faster, but I was looking for some real world experience. I believe it is a candidate for the 300 Savage, the 8x57JS and the 35 Whelen, all of which I own in modern Bolt action rifles. Thanks in advance, Eagleye.

A buddy of mine used N540 for shooting highpower. After a couple of seasons he switched to RL 15 because it was cheaper and easier to get in our area. They are very similar.

BTW we were using it in a .223 (AR) 20" barrel 1-6.5" twist with heavy bullets 69's & 80's.

DWT2; I have not tried N550, but have used N150 quite a bit. It works well, but I run out of case capacity in both the 300 Savage and the 8x57 before I reach acceptable velocities. Hoping the finer, faster burning N540 would fill the bill better. RL15 does work well, just wanted some options. Thanks again, Eagleye.

I tried N-550 in my 338.06,great, and a couple of 30.06 with 165, pressure signs and low velocity.I have a 8x57 parts at Bill Leeper's,but it's a backburner project.Viht Vouri has a lot of interesting 308 Data with N-550.Dave Freisen has it a fair price.
