Mine is easy but hard to get...

The 6.5x68 Schuler

Back in the day, it was the 35 Whelen. I rebarreled my 30-06 in 1987 and gave serious consideration to the 35 Whelen. When Remington announced the 35 Whelen offering in 1988, I jumped on it.

Today, there are a few odd balls that I desire....

284 Win
300 Savage
8mm Rem Mag
405 Win

JD338

300 Savage, 348 Win, 444 Marlin and probably something like the 358 Norma to round out my 35 caliber quest. Although a 35-300WSM would be cool too! Scotty

If I load for them, they aren't odd! Otherwise, I'd have to confess that I've grown "odd" over the years. Surely, that can't be the case. I'm building a 9.3X64 Brenneke. Does that qualify? i would enjoy owning an 8X68S RWS and a 7X64 Brenneke. I've loaded for a 7X 61 Sharpe and Hart, and I wouldn't mind having one of those as well.

That sounds like a cool one Fotis. What is the basic case? I thought it was the 9.3x64 but that doesn't make sence either I guess. Scotty

Man I can't wait till Joel gets ahold of your ear tomorrow buddy! You are going to have to take him to GreenTop or your local gun crack dealer. Scotty

Mike -
I have had both the 7X64 and the 7X61 S&H. The Brenneke is basicly a .280, so you aren't gaining anything over what you already have other than the "cool" factor (I know how important that is to us old guys). The S&H would never shoot the kind of groups I expected and the fact it was a belted magnum sent it packing. My 338-06 is the former 7X64 that was rebarreled on the Sako 75 Hunter action.

I think he will want to stay at the range and shoot steel. But I'm never against going to Greentop!

Joel,

I have loaded for the 7X61 S&H and for the 7X64 Brenneke. I know I would gain nothing, but you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the "kool" factor.

Man I should have handed him off my 270WSM when he was here! Yeah I imagine he will have a vlast out there with you. Make sure he gives that 45-70 a good shooting! Need to bring him on board to the 45-70 club. Scotty

Should have bought a Mauser in it while stationed there. You can tell it is an oldie by the 14* angle shoulder (1939) but that is easily fixed to 40*.

The 45-70 is going along with the mighty 243AI!

Should be a great day out on the range. Wished I could be there.

Fotis any specs on the Schuler. I know it is pretty 264WM like if not faster. Scotty

Iv'e always been impressed with the 284 Winchester, wouldn't mind having one in a bolt action.
My Dad has a custom built 8MM built on a 98 Mauser Action, Walnut Stock, checkering and all. He has owned that gun for 50 yrs. Our Family has shot a lot of whitetail deer with it. Maybe someday I'll own it. Either me or my brother will. I just love that caliber.
