I rarely ever get a crack at a mature whitetail during gun season. I find most of my enjoyment during the 3 weeks leading up to gun season in the field with my bow. Last fall was not nearly as productive as years past. I hunted the first 12 days of November without seeing a single deer. My luck changed on the 13th. I gave a few grunts on my grunt tube and 5 min later I caught movement straight ahead of my stand. A mature buck was slowly making his way up the hill in my direction. I quickly readied my bow and came to full draw as he was quartering to me @ 30 yds. He took a few more steps and as he turned broadside I released my arrow. He turned on a dime and bolted back the same way he came and out of sight. He only made it 100 yds.

You certainly arrowed a dandy. He has quite the head gear. Congratulations! You did well.

Congrats on a dandy buck. The rut was kind of crazy for me this year. I saw a good number of deer and had a few close calls.

That's a beauty! Congratulations on a great trophy. If I ever got one like that I would be tempted to stop hunting on a high note....

What a horse! Congrats on that brute.

That is what I think of when someone mentions a heavy horned Northern deer! Way to get it done.

Thanks guys! I just received the results of the cementum-annuli analysis. My buck was aged at 7.5 years. I used a company from texas called Wildlife Analytical Labs for the forensic aging. I was very pleased with their customer service and will use them again in the future.
A couple of weeks ago a couple of hunters from a property 1 mile to the north dropped off over a hundred trail camera pictures of my deer from the last 3 seasons. They had been hunting him pretty hard for all those years and I never saw him once in all that time. I was pretty surprised and they were pretty envious. Here are a couple pics...

Excellent animal. He's sure to have passed along his genes over that period.

Image number two is spectacular. Truly a very nice buck. Your belief in your stand paid off big time. Don't think I could have done it. I know I couldn't. Couple hours at best then I'm moving. Good job.

Holy smokes what a buck !
Congratulations.

If I were one of the other guys that brought the pictures by I'd still be crying in my beer !

He is perfect, a beautiful buck, heavy body , horns, and mass, he has it all a great buck, congratulations!!!
