    Tweaking QuickLoad

Here is something I have read and used. I admit that I don't fully get it, I'm not that smart, but I get the basics of it, I think. It has to do with barrel exit time of the bullet and adjusting the Ba or burn rate factor in QL to match the muzzle velocity you're getting. This can be...

    7X57 Mauser

I have a Ruger#1 20" barrel in 7X57. My current load is 140gr ETip at 3.11"oal, 47.0gr's of Vhitavuori N550 and I'm getting 2700fps+. Quickload indicates this is 51,555psi. 2500fps MV at std. sea level gives the 140gr ETip 2157fps and 1446ft-lbs of energy at 200yds and 1843fps and 1055ft-lbs...

New Production Model 70 Super Grades

I have a Sako 85 that I wouldn't trade for anything, a Blaser R8 with a few barrels that is extremely well engineered and made. It is refined, feels right shoots well and is a great system but cost more than a high dollar call girl. I have only one Winchester M70, a new Safari model in .375H&H...

    Looking for a new knife???

Have you looked at Outdoor Edge Swing Blade or just their Zip Blade. While I think their std blade is soso, their Zip Blade works like a charm. Once the first incision is made it is only a couple of moves from pelvis to gullet to open everything up. I like it as well or better than my Wyoming Knife.

    162 amax .284

My son used to shoot 7mmRM with 162r Amax in a Remington 700 Police 26" barrel. He said he used either 65.0 or 65.5gr's of RL22, GM215M primer and Federal brass. He thought he seated the bullet around .050" off the lands and had an OAL of around 3.35". He said he got 3050fps and grouped .25-.50"...

    375 H&H

I find the .375H&H to be very similar in recoil to my 8mmRem Mag, not bad at all. The recoil is any ware from 30-40ft-lbs and I wouldn't call the recoil snappy. My .375H&H is a Winchester M70 Safari and I love it. A side issue that impressed me about Winchester is....on a trip to Namibia my...

The downside to my last trip to the range

Living in California's condor country I shoot mostly Barnes Bullets. For the past several years all I have used is Bore Tech's Eliminator & CU+2 or Wipe Out & Accelerator for cleaning my barrels. Both have worked very well for me and they are non corrosive. I once had a barrel that would look...

    Muzzle velocity question

Well Shoot_5, with new input data QL's results are; MV 2845 66,566 psi :| @ 1,000yds 1581fps 281.6" drop (7.88mils) That's all pretty dang close to what you're experiencing. I have found that some of the things QL can't calculate are the effect of primers and bullet jump. The properties of...

    Muzzle velocity question

For your curiosity, I ran QL. Would need your cartridge OAL, H2O capacity of case, centerline of bore to scope distance and atmospherics for more precise result. But with info provided and assumptions based on std oal 2.80", case capaity 53.5gr H2o, scope height 1.70" at sea level QL...

    It Is Going (8X68S)

Dr. Mike I know I'm late in this topic but I'm curious, how did your 8x68 turn out and what load have you settled on, you see I am a 8mm fan and bought some of those 8x68 cases from Midway and then sometime later a Blaser R8 with a 8x68 barrel. I am currently finishing up a load with 220gr SGK's...

    Question about Carl Gustav 8x57

Well dubyam here you go, realize my rifle is a Sako w/21" barrel & my son's rifle is a Rem Classic w/24" barrel. The 180TSX & Nosler BT are 3.15" OAL, 160 TTSX 3.16" & 180 E-Tip 3.17 all about .050" off the lands. After loading up the rest of my 180gr TSX's I loaded 3 180gr E-Tips with the...

    Another 375 H&H?

Hey the .375 H&H in a #1 would be nice plains game rifle but wouldn't be my choice for dangerous game. I have a SS #1B in 7STW that I love. I'd buy it.

    Question about Carl Gustav 8x57

Hey if it's factory produced and the price is right go for it. If not, I'll tell you the Sako is one nice rifle. Mine is a Grizzly 85 model and I've thought about getting another in 9.3X62 I like it so much. The 170gr SST should work well in the 8X57 I know the Nosler does. But since I live in...
