7mm Mashburn Super 175 PTs and RL33

You know, the late John Wooters was a 7mm Rem mag fan. I remember reading a write-up he did on lengthening out the throat on one in his Mod 700. If I remember right, he seated the Nosler 175PT way out and, of course, had to use what powders were available then. Now, I've slept since then, so I may get this wrong but it seems to me he used Norma MRP, "maybe" H870. Both were about it back then. I tried both in my 24" 7mm mag at the time, but I never got the velocities from the 160PT I read about. I got 2950, which was perfect..."but not for me Bless God"!! ha. I wanted that 3100fps! I got it just fine, and then some with a 7mm STW and later a 7mm RUM, ha. And it even took a 26" 7mmRem mag with R26 to get to 3130 last year! ha. Only way I would go to the Masburn "now" is if I get "antsy"...which happens a lot with me!

Same here Jim. That's almost the exact reason I became interested in the MSM. It just flat works with standard powders that are easy to get. It does even better with the powders that we have nowadays that boost FPS as well.

I found both R26 and R33 to be the easiest load workups I ever did in a 7mm Rem mag. I like the R26 with the 160 and R33 with the 175. A good Fed 215M sets them off perfectly, even in compressed loads. I like both powders immensely! Some day... I too could end up with a Mashburn Super mag when I get tired of playing with this Rem mag, ha

Hey Preacher, I haven't seen much data for the Re33 in the 7mm Rem mag. What were your start loads? Mine is throated for the 175 part seated to base of neck and .010 off lands. Haven't tried it in my Mashburn yet either. 5 shoulder surgeries in 2 1/2 years with a replacement of a replacement coming up Aug 13, it makes it hard to work up loads. Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Hey there Archie! Sorry I didn't see your Post until now. Anyhow, I couldn't find my notes and a I've had several surgery's since then ( along with short term "Anesthesia" memory loss) ha I want to say I started around 75gr. I know R33 is slower than Retumbo and a tad faster then US 869. I had a 26" barrel too. used the Sierra 175 sbt. Sorry I couldn't be more help sir!
