Caught Yet "Another" Great Deal!

I asked my Smith to order me a Rife Basix trigger for this VanGuard (Howa) They have been good triggers for me in several makes. Usually, Rugers and Mausers.
I have used Timney, Rifle Basix and another brand I can’t recall on Vanguards. I still have them all.
My favorite remains the Timney, as it’s the only one that keeps (or adds) the 3 position safety.

180 TTSX or 180 Hammer Hunter with 7828SSC works great.

Thanks Doc! I have some 168 TTSX on hand, but thought I would start out with some 150 Sierra PH I have, for coyotes/plinking rocks out in the desert. See if this rifle wants to shoot. If the rifle shows promise, I'll step up to Barnes or Hammers.

I'm going to wait until after my cow hunt to mess with it very much. I hope to learn alot about the 300 wby, never owned one! I have used the 300 WSM, the 300 WM (have shot the majority of my big animals with it an monos) and the 300 RUM. The RUM, while great, I didn't hang on to as I am not a LR Hunter and it seemed like "alot of sugar for a dime", ha. By that, I used a 150 Boutique "supposedly bonded" bullet at 60yds on a 3x3 Muley. almost cut him half! ha I presented my Marine SIL with a custom 300 RUM upon his 2006 return from the sandbox. I loaded up the 200 NAB and he put a Husqemah 6.5x20 on it! I have access to it if I need LR. Admittedly though, I'm excited about this Wby. If I end up liking the cartridge I can teak this one or go with a semi custom. Jazzed!

The little draw back to the 300 Wby in the Vanguard is mag length. Other than that it’s an outstanding cartridge.

I usually seat the Barnes and the Hammers at the top groove anyhow. Great accuracy and plenty fast. Although, if I end up wanting to shoot one alot I would probably hunt down a Model 700 Classic in 300 Wby. 1. I really like the Classic. 2. Can put a Trigger Tech on it. 3. Heavy enough to shoot well but light enough for General elk hunting. Since I'm not a LR Hunter I doubt I would even try anything over 180gr. Plenty of room in the Remington. Now, I do understand guys that want 4" of room, for those 230+ , but don't need to shoot them as I average about 190yds on elk, ha. I just can't make myself go back to a levergun in 45-70 though! I feel as sure as I do, there it will be around 350-400yds! Arrrgh! ha, plus, so far, no Grizzlys here in Utah! :)
