Anyone running a Leupold VX-R, the low powered one, on an AR-15 ?

Or any other rifle? Thoughts?

Thinking about it on my AR-15 as a perimeter/general purpose patrol rifle.

Thanks, Guy

Guy, I will be mounting the 1-4 VXR with the #4 reticle on my Guide Rifle pretty quick. Hope it's as good as everyone says.

I bought one used on here with the intention of putting it on my 300 Blackout. Haven't gotten around to it though.

The VX-R should be a high quality piece of gear, with the duplex you should easily be able to pick up targets during the day. The VX-R goes down to 1.5X, and I, personally, would like it more if it went down to a true 1x on the low end. If you don't mind the 1.5X the go for the VX-R.

I think the one I got is a 1.25x4. Should be a good.

Have not mounted mine yet but it's going into a Leupold 30MM Mark2 IMS AR mount, I got the 3-9x40 Patrol that will be setting atop my LMT MRP CQB 16 and it's possible it could see double duty. I also have a new Windham M4 A4 that will take turns using it ! Mine has a TMR Firedot that is sweet for sure, should be about a week till I get my mount from Cheaper Than Dirt? I will not know how this thing works until ii get my Black Hills MK262 Mod 1 ammo which should show up about the same time as the mount and I will post some AR porn :)

Its an impressive scope
I know Fotis has one

JD338

I chickened out in November and bought the 1.5-5x20 VX-3 Leupold with a number 4 reticle instead because I had not seen any reviews for the VX-R and some said that they were like the XV-2 optically. I kind of wanted the illuminated reticle but wanted decent optical capability more. BTW, the VX-3, 1.5-5x20 is a very nice scope also. I would say it is much improved, especially in controls, over the Vari XIII scope that I have.

However from what I have read recently in reviews, the VX-R scopes are quite nice and optically sound as well. Good luck whichever you choose.

I have a 3x9 on my 338 #1S Very nice and clear glass. I sold the 338 so back in the box she goes!

Fotis, you are going to get like I was with many more scopes than guns. That is why I have been selling scopes for the last couple months. Now I am square with one extra scope, a Conquest. I feel good about that.

Yup I will sell the VX-3 4.5x14 cds LR 4.5x14 x44 MCconquest and 412x40 AO VX2

Those are all good scopes and should sell with no problem doing so. Too bad! I just bought a Conquest a month ago. You and I are never on the same cycle length, oh well!

Guy I,am running a low powered one on my LMT and I really like the TMR fire dot reticle it has and 3-9 is low for me :) really like the quality and the fire dot on low settings!! 1-7 twist 556 MRP

Guy,

I just mounted a VX-R Patrol 1.25-4 with the SPR reticle on my new AR. Its a really clear and easy to use optic. The illuminated reticle is really slick too. It points real easy with both eyes open at close quarters. The slight magnification at low setting doesn't seem to cause too much problem. I'd sure recommend it to anyone wanting one for a patrol rifle set up. I have it mounted with the Leupold integral base.

Good info guys! It may be a couple of months, but I'll be putting the low powered version on my AR-15 patrol rifle.

Guy, just an FYI, but I have a Bushnell 1.25-4 30mm with illuminated dot which I used on a .375 H&H Sako. The 1.25x worked great for both eyes open in heavy cover.
The Leupold with a 1.5x bottom should do the same for your purpose.
Best

Roger that. Good to know.

It was about 30 years ago I had my first low-power variable, a 1-4x Leupold on a Ruger 77. Great little scope that I sold along with the rifle many years ago. Not long ago I got a 1.5-5x Leupold for my own .375, and it's been just dandy. I'm a fan of those low powered variables! You bet!

That VXR 1.25x4 is a GREAT scope so far. I love the #4 reticle and the glass. Very nice scope and the price is about right. I can't find anything to complain about with that scope.

SJB - Just curious - what are your thoughts on this one for a 375 H&H?

I'd like to scope mine with a low power variable at some point and I really like the VX-Rs on my two Nosler rifles, but I'm sort of torn. Not because of function, but more a matter of form. On a walnut stocked 375 H&H I sort of feel like I'm obligated to put on some euro-glass or something more traditional. A firedot seems sort of out of place..
