Peppering a bear with birdshot would land you in all sorts of hot water today. Probably a hearty fine too.

Bean bags are a much better non lethal.

Lol, well you stick with the bean bags, and I will stick with my old shotgun.........simple as that.

Here is another one that was standard issue back in the days of " dinosaurs " guides stuck out on the rivers by themselves. We often had huge problems with bears. An old trick that of course would be frowned upon today was to take a can of insect repellant (the more DEET the better)and wrap a strip of bacon around the can and put a rubber band on it so it stays there. When the bear shows up , simply throw it to him. He of course bites into the can
It then basically explodes in his mouth and that is about equally effective as a load of #6's in the ass.....
In either case they always give you a "wide bearth" in the future! :lol:
Mean. Sorta; Harmful to the bear? Very short term.
Effective: Extremely. Nuff said.
