I may be lashed for this. About five years ago when I started foolin' around with guns again I bought this rifle and here is what happened. Guy at work that liked to gamble sold me this old model 70 for 400 bucks. At the time all I knew was that I liked it and you can't buy anything for 400 bucks. Well, it has a serial number of 6463 or real close to that ( I don't have it here with me) and the fella at the gun shop told me it would make a good shooter, but wasn't worth much cause someone had drilled and tapped it for a leupold scope mount. I believed him and reblued and restocked it. I bought a 95% stock from Great American Gunstocks for $575 and practiced for about a year before I took a chisel to it. It turned out real nice. I got deal on a Kahles 3x9x42 with the TDS reticle for $550 and put it on the Rifle. I'ts a real pretty gun with the classic straight Winchester stock. The first year I hunted it was 05' an I killed a 4x5 over Heppner way, a 3pt in 06' and a little forky in desperation last year. 3 shots , 3 dead Deer. I sold the pre war stock so I have about $1500 in this Rifle and scope. I'm not really sorry that I changed this 1936 vintage rifle from original, but I always have this lingering feeling that maybe I screwed up by listening to the fella at the gun shop who maybe was only trying to steal it from me. I'll post a picture one of these days. Ken in Corvallis
