Looking at getting a Ruger blackhawk in 45LC. Was contemplating getting the 44mag, but 45LC just sounds better to me! With the Ruger, is there really any downfalls to getting the 45 instead of the 44? Some of the load data out there makes them fairly comparable. I also like that it has a conversion cylinder to shoot up a good supply of 45acp that I have for practice with it. Mostly would be a target type gun that I'd like to shoot a deer with if the opportunity presents itself.

I think the 45LC in the Ruger Blackhawk is probably better than the 44RM with comparable load data. Get yourself one! I want one myself, like Pops! Scotty

I have a 5 1/2" barrel BH 45 Colt and I love it. I do not have the 45 ACP cylinder. A stiff load of H110/WW296 and the Hornady 250 XTP or hard cast 250 SWC really shoots well and stops what ever it hits with authority. One thing I would do for shooting heavy loads it get you a set of Hogue grips. With the stock grips when shooting those heavy loads the pistol would flip up and allow your grip to slip and would hurt the web of you hand. I put the Hogue mono-grip on and turn it into a pussy cat. I also had a 44 mag RSBH and with the stock grips with a two hand hold that square back trigger guard would come back and hit my knuckles and HURT. I got rid of it and got a Red Hawk 44 that was much better. I could kick my self for getting rid of the RH. I carry my 45 Colt BH with heavy loads all the time when I am in the woods around home. We have bears that can be a problem at times.

I love mine! I have a thing for Bisleys.

Get the 45 Long Colt. It will do everything a 44 Rem Mag will do. 8)

I've heard about the tight throats, but I read somewhere that recently all of the new .45's out there have new dimensions and will chamber all .45 bullets. This seems to be a pretty versitile revolver, looking forward to getting one!

I have the convertible with both cylinders 4 5/8 " barrel. And I like the 45 long colt so much I have not even used the 45 acp cylinder yet and I have had the gun for about 5 years. I also have a 44mag and I use the 45 colt much more. There is something special about a 255-290 grn lead bullet going 1000 fps. That is the level I load to and they are very comfortable to shoot. The gun is fun to shoot

I was really contemplating the 45LC when I got my 44, but since I already had 44 dies, it swayed me. Now I wished I would have gotten the 45LC for something different. Scotty

Same reason I got mine.

That is kind of my thinking. Everybody has a 44! The ACP cylinder just puts some icing on it.
