Thinking about a new "Mountain" type hunting rifle...

I've been kicking around another WSM in a light weight/all weather rifle and the M70 Coyote light has grabbed my attention.

I think it all hinges on what you call light actually. If you wanna get right to the root of light, a Montana is pretty danged light and ready to go most of the time. But defining light is probably your first step. Pretty easy to do once you have that number in your brain.

Rem 700 CDL, 30-06, 6x Leupold…

Black bear, one shot at 325 yards

etc... It's brought me black bear, elk, mule deer, pronghorn, wolf & grizzly. The 700 CDL platform is reasonably light and my two have proven quite accurate. The other is a 25-06, and has made a one-shot 400 yard mountain mule deer, with a 6x Leupold. Holding right at the top of the back, dropped the 115 into the heart & lungs.

Just thought I'd throw those two out there - either cartridge, or something else if you prefer - in a nice handling rifle. I think of those two as my mountain rifles.

Regards, Guy
