2015 Hunting Pictures

Welcome aboard, Bryan, and congratulations Madyson. Those are a couple of fine deer you took. You have every reason to be proud of your ability to handle a rifle and take such fine specimens. Again, you done good, girl! (y) Congratulations to Dad and Grandpa for encouraging Madyson to hunt!

First elk from Eastern Oregon. Taken on opening day, last Wednesday. Broken off on both sides, so we'll call him a 2x4.

Excellent. Glad to see you connect on a fine bull. He is smallish, but he will provide some excellent dining. Congratulations!

Wow! Congrats to all of the hunters! Great looking elk as well. Too darned cool.

PICT0023.JPGPICT0010.JPGPICT0013.JPGView attachment 3We hunted the Missouri Breaks of Montana and picked up two elk one bull one cow and two mule deer bucks. I'll try and post the pictures. My main computer is in the shop. We hunted 9 days and I saw 3 bulls larger than the one I got. This was all on public land. I don't know how to delete the double of the elk.

Congratulations, Greg. You've done very well this year. Fine bull, nonetheless.

I climbed in my stand well before daylight on the morning of Friday the 13th (Nov)..Settled in and immediately started glassing the lanes. I noticed a deer standing at the end of the lane but it was well before I had enough light to see it clearly. I watched a second, smaller deer walk in, so I figured a yearling just walked out to meet momma. As Darkness faded and I got enough light to see, HE picked his head up from feeding and my heart skipped a beat. I tried to find my crosshairs but was struggling for light. When I got enough light, the doe stepped in front of him. This went on for an eternity, Probably only two minutes.. The Buck decided there was too much light to be safe and he turned and trotted towards the woods. As his head entered the trees I yelled at him hoping he would stop and turn..I'm not even sure he did when the shot rang out. Now I'm left alone with my thoughts.. Second guessing everything. Calculating drops in my head...He was roughly 150 yards and I should be 3.7" high at that distance. Did I aim low enough? Did I hit him at all. The one thing I knew I was thankful for at this moment was I brought enough gun for a tough shot. My 35 Whelen was sitting in my lap, warm from passing the 225 Partition down her throat.. That always gives me comfort.
After an hour and a half, I got down to look for blood. I wasn't really sure where he went after the shot.. I found his kick ups in the dirt but did not immediately find blood in the direction I thought he went. I went back to POI and started searching in the other direction.. WOW...Just WOW... The path the Buck ran looked like a murder scene. He made it 30-40 yards before the ole' blood pump ran dry.. I was pleased to find the shot was perfect. Entering behind the right shoulder and exiting the left side of his neck, missing both shoulders.

thanks Dr. Mike.
No vivid story on this one.. He made the mistake of stepping into the edge of a cotton field the next afternoon. I wasn't having a warm fuzzy about the 162 AMAX in my 7RM but it piled him up in place. Shot was 352 yards.
